Awesome board. I bought one last week from ClubIT for the same price and had absolutely no problem with it. Looks very well made too with those solid caps.

Can anyone confirm if they have used that ram and this motherboard together. I would like to pair the two if possible. I don't over clock if that makes a difference.

the board sure ought to use the hp $2.99 ram... it's jdec, micron chips... i've put it in 4 different boards and it's been fine, even up to 400mhz with 2.0 volts and 555 timing...

That matches Newegg's specification, but it's only true of the Rev. 1 boards. I imagine Newegg is selling the Rev. 2 version, which moves two of the USB ports to the back pack panel (for 6 total).

Still, the DS3L Rev. 2 board kept the parallel and serial ports on the back panel. The other Gigabyte P35 Rev. 2 boards didn't, as far as I can tell. I've got to admit I'm getting confused by all of the model numbers, so I could be wrong.

the board has to flashed to run 45nm chips. there is a beta bios out for it right now F8a

GA-P35-DS3L (rev. 2.0) CPU support list

that sucks....any way to flash w/ only a 45nm cpu on hand? will it even post?

Second that question. Can you use a 45nm chip to post far enough to allow us to flash to the new bios?

Why'd you want to flash it? The new 2.0 boards support 45nm cpus out of the box. At least thats whats plastered all over the box that I got.

I asked Gigabyte that very question and the response was that I would need another 775 chip that was supported in order to flash it. But I also had the F3 Bios. I didn't actually try an E8400 to see if it worked since mine wont be here till Friday. I ended up borrowing a CPU from work to flash it.

Here's a anandtech review: MSI P35 Neo2-FR: Platinum performance for under $100

I just ordered a GA-P35-DS3L.

I was completely turned off by MSI's website. I can't feel comfortable buying a MB from a company with a website as trashy as that. Hell, their latest Product Comparison sheet must be 3-4 years old! It's hard to get any warm fuzzies about their customer support after the sale when they put so little effort in before the sale. Also, at the time, I hadn't seen the MSI P35 Neo2-FR priced so cheaply.

The MSI P35 Neo2-FR might be a great board for the money, but MSI sure didn't seem interested in convincing me of that.

While I'm bitching, Gary Key's article about the Neo2 didn't do much for me either. He acts all excited that he got a decent Neo2 board from MSI, and implies that the Neo2 line is something developed recently to compete with boards like the IP35-E and GA-P35-DS3L.
What excites us in the under $100 performance market are boards like the abit IP35-E and Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L. Recognizing this trend, MSI developed the Neo2 series. In actuality, they did not have to do too much development; the Neo2-FR/FIR is just a rebadged P35 Platinum with a couple of features missing.
Well, other sites were already reviewing other Neo2 boards in 2003, so the Neo2 line is obviously not something MSI developed after the P35 Platinum was developed in response to some trend that involved the IP35-E or GA-P35-DS3L. Maybe the rest of the article is OK, but it's stuff like that (and Gary's promise .75 years ago to come out with a P35 roundup soon) that ruins the overall credibility for me. Other people might not care about stuff like this, and go straight to the benchmarks. YMMV.

will this board work with my old 2.8ghz HT 800fsb P4? I plan on getting a Q6600 in the near future but for now I'd like to use my P4.

Great board. Using one with 2GB of HP RAM at the moment. Dropping in 4GB and an E8400 shortly.
