I've been planning to build a system with e8400 and Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L but it seems thatt the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L is not available and the verdict on the EP35-DS3L is not so good - so what alternative is there in the 90-110 price range ? (I do not need raid nor good audio - I do need a solid board that is stable, cool and reliable).

Huh? They are the same board except the energy saving features are an option in the BIOS.

There have been complaints that the E does not save settings correctly on reboot. From what I've read they are unsure if it is correctable in the bios - settings related to voltage and clock frequency...

I just got a GA-EP35-DS3L today because I *heard* it was like the old GA-P35-DS3L.

Well, it has a different BIOS. Different look, different options, and as of right now, does NOT let you change VCore. There is a VCore option in BIOS, but it doesn't "stick". It doesn't save. You can set it to 1.4, 1.5, etc - and it will still show your default of 1.2, 1.1, etc.

Some people say that after resetting CMOS, it lets them change VCore, but then it just "forgets" after a while and drops it back down to default. That has resulted in some nice BSODs for people.

I just "upgraded" to this board, and now I'm running slower with this board than my old one.

Hopefully, this is just a BIOS issue. I feel like RMA'ing this board and getting something else. Again, I bought it because I've seen people say over and OVER that it's like the GA-P35-DS3L, but it is NOT.

I've read if you disable C1E, TM2, and EIST in the BIOS then the Energy saving stuff is disabled and the vcore changes will stick - however, many report vdroop under load.

I've also read that when you install the drivers for your MB from the disk, if you uncheck the first option (DES), then the energy saving features won't be installed at all and you won't have the problem in the first place.

Hum. Problem is I've seen almost no one (who has it) claim it is as good as the old board. So I'm a bit leary hence this thread - is there a good alternative near the same price point ?

Would either DFI BloodIron P35-T2RL LGA 775 Intel P35 or DFI LANPARTY DK P35-T2RS LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX be a reasonable alternative ? If so which one ?

Hit Ctrl F1 when?

Ctrl F1 and then change it, or change it and then hit Ctrl F1?

Neither seemed to work.

Edit:
Honestly, I'd like to know why'd you would suggest hitting "CTRL F1" to make it "stick". Where did you get that information from? Why would you think that would make it work?

The more I search on the GA-EP35-DS3L, the more I realize it doesn't work right. Most people who give it good reviews haven't seemed to try to overclock.

I'm only concerned about overclocking because my cheap chip, the E2220 has been working perfectly at 3.2 GHz on the old board. I upgraded to this new board because of it supporting 4 Gigs of RAM and PCI-Express 2.0 cards. Now my system is running slower, less stable, and my Vista score dropped.

Not only does it not let me adjust VCore, it wouldn't even boot when I had my chip with a vcore mod plugged into it.

I have the EP35 version. I reset CMOS and have all power saving stuff disabled. After I reset it, it "remembers" my voltage change.

My boards built quality is wonderful. It overclocks great for a budget board. I am running a E8400 3.0 @ 4.0 on it. 4 gig of OCZ RAM and a 9800GTX.

I emailed Gigabyte for a beta BIOS and they sent me F5b. With that BIOS I do not have to reset CMOS to have the voltage stick anymore.

For the record, they ARE the same board except for ADDED power saving features on the EP35.

Are the BIOS's different? Well duh! They newer EP35 boards have more power saving features. Obviously the BIOS will be slightly different!

Ok well that sounds good (new bios will fix the problem) - so if you can find all three of these which would you go with:
GA-P35-DS3L ($95)
GA-EP35-DS3L ($89)
DFI LANPARTY DK P35-T2RS ($129)

I think I'll probably go with the DFI DK board - it is only $20 more and seems to have not so many issues...
