Nice board but some drawbacks
"Relatively low performance with overclocked FSB;
Unstable operation with DDR2 SDRAM frequency exceeding 1150MHz;
No voltage monitoring in the system." (! who doesn't include voltage monitoring in this day and age!)
and no firewire which I really want.

Too bad, I had high hopes for this one and it was high on my to think about buying list
Great price though. Thanx for the post and links

That is why they make bios updates except for the firewire of course.

I'm dieing to get the last two components for my build...including of course a P35 motherboard. It's tempting to just pull the trigger on this Gigabyte board, but I hear that the ABIT P35 offerings will be pretty inexpensive compared to the Asus Deluxe offering...with about the same features. I would like to have the firewire...even though I'm not currently making use of it.

I need to step away for a week or two...this surfing every day looking at the hot deals forum is killing me

I become a junkie too whenever I get the "itch" to upgrade my rig. After the upgrade I won't be on here for months. It is cool stepping back in after months and seeing all the new advances in the hardware. The research is painful though it pays off in the end!

I did as well, until I read the conclusion. As far as an updated bios, I'd rather go with a board that doesn't have these issues right out of the box......

Umm...how is this any better than the P5k vanilla? Other than being like $8 cheaper lol.
The P5K vanillla has a 4X PCI-E for crossfire...and firewire...
The only thing this board has that it doesn't is proper Raid support but I can live without that.

Why are people so caught up with firewire. I personally have no use for it and if I did it requires a $10 pci card. This Gigabyte board was made for users that don't care about SLI, firewire, and want a board that OC's like a beast. I have had the SLI capability on my board for 2 years now and haven't used it once. I can say the same for firewire.

This board will fill a certain niche. Take it for what it is. Other than SLI and firewire it is full of nice features that is even surprising some of the reviewers.

haven't done a build since 2003, I am really itching to get out of socket 478 land.

So is this "bleeding edge" right now ? the P35 ?

bearlake is the most current chipset, yes. But x38 is likely to be out in late July

It also comes down to bang for your buck. The P35 with DDR2 is very cost efficient for the performance you get.

There is no reason to get x38 with ddr3 at this time. I would like to see a P35 vs x38 comparison with ddr2, I bet the P35 would come pretty close to the x38.

Weren't these boards twice as much when they came out a few weeks ago before actual launch of the P35?

Edit: I see its the DQ6 that costs a LOT more.

This may sound sadistic but I like buying a board before all the bugs are ironed out. It gives me the excuse to tinker and feel very satisfied when everything works fine. This is just part of the computer building experience. We are the "extreme athletes" of the computer hardware world!

No I haven't been drinking! :beer:
