Gigabyte GA-SINXP1394 Problems

Just got my Gigabyte GA-SINXP1394 and it won't post. The first time I turned on the power it beeped once, did the memory test, I hit delete went to the BIOS and then it froze. I tried re-booting and halfway through the post after the memory test it gave me a "VRD power failure" and then froze (what does that mean?). Now it wont even beep and nothing happens. I originally had 2 512mb sticks of Corsair xms 3200 (for duel channel), but thought that might be causing the problem so I took 1 out and just tried with 1 stick for single channel, but no change. I have taken out the cmos battery numerous times (for re-setting) with no help. This is the same system that they reviewed here and they had no problems. Anyone know a possible solution?

Have you tried operating it without the auxiliary voltage regulation unit installed? And (duh) you do have the four-pin auxiliary power plug plugged in, right?

Yes and Yes. I have unplugged and replugged everything. Do you know what "VRD power failure" means?

I don't, but I was wondering if it might mean "voltage regulator device," which is why I suggested removing the secondary power unit. You might want to set the board up outside the case with just the bare minimum stuff, then switch to the backup BIOS (refer to your owner's manual, they don't seem to have posted it for download yet or I'd try to find the info myself), and try starting it up like that.

If that doesn't work, do this: strip the board bare of video, RAM, and even the CPU itself. Bare board. Now unplug your PSU from the wall, and plug the PSU's ATX and auxiliary cables into the mobo. Plug the PSU into the wall and turn it on, and the board's LED should come on (assuming it has an LED to indicate live power). Now trip the motherboard's Power Switch pins with a screwdriver tip, and your PSU's fan should begin to turn (and you may get beep codes). If it doesn't even fire up the PSU then it's probably RMA time.

Ruled out the psu. Switched psu with my other system and no change. I guess I'll send it back to newegg. The problem is, there out of stock so I might have to wait a while.

I had a very similar problem. I bought a Gigabyte GA-8INXP and I would power up and it would begin to boot then just shut down. I double checked everything and tried to boot again? same thing. I pulled everything off the mobo, checked everything one more time and tried to boot with the bare minimum. It boots and I get a DPVRM failure error. Check this link for the rest.

Poacher... me too! I also get a "DVPRM power failure" message on my new GA-SINXP1394, but it doesn't seem to affect anything so far

Eron...Thanks for the link. I feel better now that I know others have seen this too (misery lovers company I guess).

Evan, do you have any insight into this problem?

Thanks!

Thanks Eron. I removed the dpvrm and stoped getting the "VRD power failure" message. I found out why I couldn't get it to boot. It was the ram. Apparently the auto settings for the ram in the BIOS are too aggressive. I stuck an old stick of DDR266 in and it booted. Then I got into the BIOS and switched the memory timings to 2,6,3,3, saved and shut off and stuck the Corsair 3200 back in and restarted. The install went perfect after that. Later I tried to set the timings back to 2,6,2,2 and whamo, wouldn't even beep again. Seems strange that you can't even get into the BIOS if you set the memory to 2,6,2,2 and that's using Corsair XMS 3200LL. In the review here they stated that it ran fine with that exact memory set to 2,6,2,2. I don't get it. What memory are you running and what timings?

Haven't even gotten to memory timings yet. I hope to install OS today. I'm using 2 sticks of Crucial 512 Mb PC2700 CAS 2.5.

While in the BIOS hit Ctrl and F1 at the same time. Gigabyte likes to hide it.
