Just bought a used Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H with a 3570k, only thing I'm missing to finish off everything is ram. Future Shop here in Canada (Best Buy), is selling this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...irtualParent=1
for 54,99$. Only reason I'm buying there is cause I have giftcards for the place so it'll end up costing me next to nothing.

Anyone have this ram and board, or this ram in general? Yay, nay?
The kingston website says their KHX1600C9D3K2/8G is compatible with the board, the ones at futureshop have an X at the end, so KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX. Does that make a difference?

Also, other ram suggestions are welcome, I'd like to keep it to futureshop just for the giftcards, but not completely opposed to buying elsewhere if this is not a good option. Future Shop also sells a ton of Corsair products.

Thanks.

Edit: This is also available at futureshop for 68.99$ (apparently compatible with this mobo)

Usually the first part of the partnumber is well yes the part number where as the 8G indicates the total number of ram I expect, that's without consulting any online sources. Maybe paired eg. You should only need to concern yourself with the partnumber and then obviously the ram is compatible, but might not have been tested in pair(s)

Hope that made sense.

PS - Always get the qvl.

That's what I'm saying. Kingston is fine for stock maybe not overclocking tho.

PS - You should have an xml profile for that, so you boot to bios go in the appropriate section load xml profile and good to go. If not run the timings manually.

Doubt futureshop has anything good enough to OC...might just buy that kingston then. Doubt I'll ever oc again...was fun when I had time...now, not so much.

Depends on your needs.

Have both ddr3 and ddr2 kingston and they do what they promise. Heat spreader hmm.

Got exactly the same kingston in a 3*4 kit and they are fine to me.

No I don't think so. You prolly won't even get an advantage over 1333 mhz, but considering the price I would also get the 1600. Maybe there are other opinions, but as far as I'm concerned and all I've seen the cpu won't able to utilize the faster ram. It's a bit like the old fsb to ram ratio I'm sure you are familiar with even though it's a different technology. The busses still have to sync somehow. Corsair Kingston won't make a huge difference stock and why stress the hardware if you are running single screen no 3d. Multi screen setup well....

Just my opinion.

Well then, I'll order the Kingston then. Futureshop has great return policies if it doesn't work. Thanks for the advice.

You are welcome mate. One brand that I wholeheartedly can recommend. I would expect they got the biggest market share out there.

The X at the end means it has an XMP profile which is designed to set the correct settings automatically. This is a good thing.

Not so good is that the memory requires 1.65V to run at 1600MHz. Officially Sandy/Ivy Bridge cpu's support no more than 1.575V for ram voltage, although many people run 1.65V ram anyway. To be safe you can run it at 1333MHz/1.5V or get 1600MHz/1.5V ram instead, like the Corsair you mentioned.

Overclocking memory will make zero difference in performance. Memory compatibility seems to be less and less of a concern as technology continues to improve (their website won't even have every compatible model listed, would take too much time), so getting whichever one you "like" best should be fine.
