My Gigabyte 845G motherboard box has Easytune4 as a selling point,
the driver cd does come with it,
but it can't be installed, come out error message.

Later I checked Gigabyte website Easytune4 support list,
there is no 845 series chipset motherboard in the list.

EasyTune? 4 support list

EasyTune? 4 can be run in all models except some features are initially disable due to the hardware difference, such as Chipset or clock generator.

Pentium 4 Platform
8SDX
8SRX
8TX
8TXC
8TM
8TXC1

Hey, remember me? MSI pulled the same sh-t by advertising "Free PC Hardware Health Monitoring Software! (PC Alert)" in big bold letters on the retail box of the KM133A Pro5 (MS-6340 v5.0).

I think 'cool', hardware monitoring is a great thing. Except the damned board has no hardware monitoring feature or hardware. :disgust:

Gigabyte is a little bit better in this case, at least it has hardware monitoring in the bios, just can't do it in software.

Oh, and one other thing, the MSI website clearly shows the KM133A Pro5 in the pictures as having an attached northbridge HSF. I open the full retail box, no northbridge HSF, just a plain old MSI HS. Grrr.

Did MSI put a remark like "the actual product may be different from the picture shown above"?
Most manufacturers put such thing and "spec may change without prior notice" to avoid legal trouble.
So they should also add "you won't get all what we promise, the actual product may not work, you may not receive the rebate, etc" now.

Your problem installing the software has to do with your OS or CD Drive - not your motherboard. What type of error did you get? If it's a CD problem then download it from their website.

So? It's not like KM133A northbridge would NEED any active cooling. Just one more cheap rotating thing that'll fail some day.

btw, the chipset DOES have hardware monitoring circuitry too ... it's in the 686B south bridge. Whether that particular board uses it is another question - I can't see why not, it's in there for free.

regards, Peter

I'm not worried about needing it, it goes to basic truth in advertising. Nobody likes to be sold on a product based on one depiction, and not getting quite that depiction.

I know, who woulda thunk! The board has no monitoring feature at all. The 686B circuitry is not enabled. Hell my old Tyan Super 7 board using the 686A has monitoring. There isn't even a sense feature on the CPU FAN header that will shut the system down if no FAN is detected.

Although, MSI assured me it supports the internal thermal protection feature of XP processors. I guess that's a plus, unless you're not using an XP, which I'm not, then it isn't.

Anyway, MSI redeemed itself by validating the board with XP up to 2600+, so that makes all the other stuff better.

Which ga board do you have? I had an 8igx and ran ga's software monitoring under xp with no problems. I also ran easytune 4 with no problems under xp...

8IGX too, using winxp pro, actually it can install, but cannot run.

"Failed to open Easytune WinNT driver" pop up,
then "Failed to open Easytune Win2000 driver" pop up.

I wouldn't see it like that. Knowing that product photos are often taken on preproduction gear, before details like thermals are worked out. That's why you usually see disclaimers like "actual product may vary in detail" next to those pictures. In contrary, if I went out to buy something that I thought needs active cooling, to then find it doesn't, would make me a happier-than-expected customer.

I understand and accept why they use disclaimers such as 'product my vary'. Changes to circuitry and layout may be required, and it prevents someone from saying "Hey, the picture shows a different resistor value at R130 through R138 than the board I received, and the capacitors around the CPU socket look different, I want a new board!"

What is not acceptable under the 'disclaimer' is to change FEATURES or FUNCTION that is a selling point. It would not be acceptable to say, show a board with 5 PCI slots, and deliver a board with only 4 PCI slots. Any features or function which is OPTIONAL should be clearly noted as optional.

Thank you bingo13, now it runs,
but it says
"ScanBiosInfo fail"
"Sorry! We didn't support this mainboard."

Only can show the cpu speed correctly,
click anything, it crashes.

Ha ha ha.

Won't buy Gigabyte mb again.

Did you try the latest bios and what not? on their website it says version f3 and higher "support new easytune 4".

And I never had a problem with it - installed it and ran it fine under xp. I don't have the motherboard anymore though...

You need to install the F5 bios. EasyTune 4 works properly on this board. Also make sure you have the lastest version of EasyTune4.
