Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI SATA problem

When I set up my machine, the only way I could get it recognize the Maxtor SATA was to A)Make a single drive raid array or B)Disable the raid feature, which made the system identify the SATA controller as just another bank of drives. However, in either case I had to install SATA drivers, and I am also having the problem that they system will hang when searching for harddrives and will also not detect on restart (IE, you have to power down the machine)

It seems as if Giga is having a problem with these NQQ drives.

I'd like to know how to enable/disable NQQ and whether it is on or off by default. Can anyone give me any clues?

I got my Maxtor drives to show up once I used the SATA 2 ports (yellow), the second one down is the 1st port the top is the second, the 3rd from top is the 3 the bottom one is the 4th, makes sense, not. Anyway then I disabled all raid even the raid 5 option near the bottom of the integrated peripherals (if that is right) bios screen, rebooted, then back in the bios to make sure the bootable device was set to my Maxtor, then hey presto they show up during the BIOS check. I also found they worked better when I used a larger power supply that supported ATX 2 +.

I?m still having problems, just get a black screen with a flashing white cursor at the top left of the screen. No matter what I swap round I can?t get rid of it? I can?t even get into the BIOS now??!! My one is slowly dying. Have left a message with Giga-Byte and two emails but no luck?

Any advice? i was going to say sod it and get another board, any more advice on that? ASUS? DFI?

I have had problems with my maxtor diamondmax appearing sometimes on bootup and not appearing other times. I decided to get the ASUS A8N-SLI which works perfectly. During installation of this motherboard I realised that my problem may have been down to not connecting the 4 pin 12v connector, which asus manual warns to do. I do not know if this would have solved the problem.

I`ve got new unofficial Bios from Gigabyte. They send me it on Monday. Version F7H. But I cannot test it because recently I left my Maxtor DiamondMax 10 in service. Now I`m using temporarily Western Digital Caviar SE 80GB ( IDE not serial-ATA). I think you should try new BIOS (of course on your own responsibilty) and check if Maxtor drives with serial-ATA and NCQ are working.
But there is one problem. That Bios you cannot find on Gigabyte website and nowhere else. It is now unattainable on Internet. So please write to me: eniezalowski@autocom.pl
and I`ll send it to you. I tested it and that Bios seems to work normal but I cannot now test it with Sata-drives. Please test it a write on forum if it is working with Sata+NCQ drives.

I checked that new BIOS and now it works very well with my MaxtorDiamond MAX 10. System boot normally and quickly. Recognize all drives without any problem. Download new BIOS F7H and have fun with your GA-K8NXP-SLI.

Has anyone else tried this new BIOS? Just curious because its been almost 2 months since this post and there has yet to be any feedback on it or an update to the official BIOS on their site. I too an having the dreaded Maxtor issue.

Yep. I used them and lost my audio hardware. The onboard Realtek wouldnt show up in the hardware manager. I droped back to the F6 version.
