VR-Zone interview with GIGABYTE United
( Rockson Chiang, the Technical Marketing Manager of new formed Gigabyte United Inc )
... ASUS is still our main competitor.

... As for Asus P5BE Plus. Instead of saying how do we compete with them, i would rather say they are competing with us ...

... The cost added for having solid caps on ATX board is USD $7 , m-ATX $5.

... We are introducing all-solid cap design down to 945 platforms and we are releasing a new series of P965 rev 3.3 boards with native FSB 1333 support.
... Gigabyte revision 3.3 boards will be out end of this month.

... will be called for eg. GA-965P-DS3 rev 3.3 ...GA-965P-DS3 rev 3.3. Other models include : GA-965P-DS4 rev 3.3 GA-965P-S3 rev 3.3 GA-965P-DQ6 rev 3.3

No price differences

There will be more BIOS features for eg. a new 2.5x mem multiplier.

So far only 975X can support 1333FSB. We tried unlocking 1333FSB through BIOS but the end results are not ideal. Therefore, we re-routed the circuitry and added more components. However, 965 still lacks 975x of the dual graphics 2 x PCIe x8 bandwidth.

Interesting. Those that will be buying the 4300/4400 chips when they come out will want to look closely at these new mobos. Particularly the DS3.

Isn't the main difference between the S3 and the DS3 currently that the DS3 uses solid caps?

So, if the 3.3 revision comes with solid caps on all models, as the article states, it seems that the S3 and DS3 would be almost the same in the 3.3 version.

Why would you need handpicked DRAM? 1333 FSB just needs DDR2-667 to run 1:1, no?

As for running "any C2D" at 1333 FSB ... who knows. There are no guarantees but based on what's been reported so far it sure seems a very likely bet that it will work.

Guess I'd better toss out any hope that a review will show up a little later this week. Are you still under a NDA or has that expired? It would be nice if you could at least talk/speculate about the boards ... if there's anything to say.

Any ideas when this board will hit retailers and be in full sale? I almost ordered the rev 2.0 but then I figured I would wait to hear the reviews on the new rev 3.3. I just hope it is available soon!

Is there any real hardware change that would enable one board to run 1333 instead of the usual 1066. Most of the DS3 rev 1 can run >400 MHz right? If so, what's special about this rev 3.3?

Does that help at all?

It also says the boards are available.

Our boards will arrive this week. Cameron (TweakTown Review) is in Taiwan so they do not have to worry about customs issues in Alaska (held for three days).

I've had a rev 3.3 965-S3 for a few weeks now and have been impressed by it albeit for the fact with all new components it won't "allow" any FSB modifications at all - not even a 267fsb. Hopefully a F9 bios will fix this issue, though I doubt the issue stands with all rev 3.3 boards - murphy's law...

ClubIt.com claims to have the revision 3.3 boards in stock. I emailed them about how I could guarantee I got one and they responded:

No, you won't need to request it since they are all 3.3.

Best regards

Since I am now ready to pull the trigger - any suggestion on which memory to get:

This Corsair

or This Patriot.

I need it to boot out of the box as I have no Old Cheap Junk DDR2 Memory laying around. The patrioy is more but is 4.4.4.4.12 vs 5 for the Corsair. I am buying a E4300 CPU for it.

I don't feel qualified to give recommendations about memory, but here's my two cents FWIW. I'd go with the Corsair as long as you can get the "good price". Unless you routinely do very long running CPU/memory intensive tasks you are unlikely to even notice the benefit of the Patriot's lower latencies. It's also worth speculating about the fact that the specs for the Corsair are 5-5-5-12 at 1.9V while for the Patriot are 4-4-4-12 at 2.2V. Would the Corsair also be capable of 4-4-4-12 timings if you could run it at 2.2V?? (Not that I'm suggesting you do this ... unless Corsair tells you it would not void your warranty. Not sure what Corsair says the max "safe" voltage for their memory is).

Please post back after you receive the board. I'd be interested in hearing how this actually turns out for you.

(It's surprising how many seller's can't seem to track which version of the motherboard they carry)

I went to clubIT and they have three GA965GDS3 boards that are all different prices. How do you know which one is the Rev. 3.3 board?
