I just built a new system.

MB - P35-DS3P
CPU - Q6600
VGA - 7900GS KO
RAM - Blistix 800
PSU - Corsair HX 520w
Case - Antec P180B
HDD - Samsung 400GB

This is my first official build and I am running into driver problems. I am running windows XP 64 bit. When I go to install the drivers for the on board sound (ALC 889A) the driver installation GUI gives me an error saying this windows patch must be installed before the driver can be installed. That shouldn't be too complicated right?... WRONG!!!

I download the patch and I go to install it... an error message comes up saying there is a more updated version of this software already installed... but obviously its not good enough since the HD Audio driver fails to install because it needs a patch!!!

Is there a way to force install a patch like there is in linux! I hate when Microsuck just assumes you are too dumb to know what you are doing and doesn't let you do it!!!!

what would you do in this situation? (Please don't turn this into linux talk thread) Please help me out I am running out of options.

PS. I downloaded the drivers off the gigabyte site and those failed to install as well.
PPS. Sorry about not posting any links to the exact problem patch.... I am at work and I don't have access to the exact link. Hopefully I'll post those this afternoon.

Please let me know if you need any other info.... THANK YOU!

I had similar problems with the audio on my DS3P, but I'm running 32-bit XP

I finally went in and uninstalled (add-remove programs) all of the audio related items on the list.

Than I went back and installed the drivers from the Gig-site. Obviously, one of the drivers that got installed from the CD was bad and trying to install over it with the drivers from the website didn't work.

Once I did this, audio ws fine.

I looked in the add-remove program list and could not find any installed software related to Audio.... did you men device manager? I tried to uninstall the device and reinstall it through dive manage but it would not let me. Device manager reports a (code 28) for the device.

My problem is that no drivers install whatsoever, good or bad. It simply fails to install.
thank you for your help though

Try disabling Azalia Codec (on board video) in BIOS - Integrated Peripherals.

Load Vista.

Reboot, go back into BIOS, enable Azalea Codec.

Load drivers.***

***No need to load the Micriosoft patch, it is included in the Realtek 1.72 drivers

I'm not sure what you mean by "load vista", I have XP 64Bit... I'm just ganna assume you mean "any OS" (correct me if I'm wrong on this)
OK I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes.... thank you so much for your help I hope it works! \\:^)

Sorry, I meant, boot up your system (I run vista 64)

After disabling Azalia in BIOS, You might also try Guru3d Driver Sweeper in safe mode - F8 at the beginning of boot sequence - reboot, go into BIOS and enable Azalia, load drivers.

I reinstalled windows but this time I didn't bother with "half installing" the driver on the CD; I Installed Realtek 1.72 drivers and it worked patching required. Thank you so much for your help Tates.

ITloser, my whole problem was that the Q901105 would not install on my machine saying something to the effect of "SP2 should have this already... this patch is out of date" and it would not let me install it. Anyway thanx for your help problem resolved
