I agree that Gigabyte makes quality boards. My son and I recently built two Gigabyte systems. This one (P35-DQ6) and a 680i DQ6. Both worked without a single problem. No BSOD screens ever. Completely stable. No problems with any of the components either.
You mentioned that you first loaded the Windows updates and were about to load the video drivers. You loaded the chipset drivers after Windows right?
My boot screen that you asked about stays on the monitor for almost 5 seconds. What seems to delay it is the configuring of the HD and optical drives.
