Also when the system boots I get the thing were it starts to boot, then shuts down and boot like normal which I have heard is pretty common. I read that it could be because some memory settings and that the system is unstable after this, but I have had no problem. This booting thing doesn't happen every time either. About 50 % of the time or more.

I got that too whenever I run the RAM above 2.1V. (I am assuming that "DDR 18V" is actually meant to be "1.8V", which of course fails because you're not at 1.8V...)

I found that when it shuts down and seems to reboot like normal, that means it failed to POST (or failed some other test) and probably disabled some overclocking settings in the BIOS automatically (check the BIOS whenever it does this). If the system is sometimes barely stable enough to get through the startup normally, you'll get that not-rebooting-every-time business.

Another thing is that when I try to run the memory at it default speed of 800 I get errors when trying to unrar files. I am currently running my Q6600 CPU at 334*9 FSB with a memory ratio of 2 and everything is fine. This gives me a memory speed of 668 MHz. I have manually set the timings of the memory at its rated speed of 4-4-4-12. If I let the bios set it I get 5-5-5-18. I want to run the memory at its rated speed of 800, but when I set the memory multiplier in the BIOS to 2.4 which gives 802 MHz I get errors when sfv-checking and unraring files. I have set the memory voltage at 2.3V as the memory modules states and I have tried memory option 1, 2 in the BIOS without any luck.

Anyone know what the problem could be? I am using 4 GB of Patriot memory.

Does anyone know if a Tuniq Tower 120 will fit on a GA-P35-DS3R? I heard there was a problem with the backplate or something and I just want to confirm.

My head is swimming! too many options!

Sharky extreme recommends the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L for their budget PC.

There is a GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R for an extra $30 on newegg, what does that $30 buy me? what is the diff between L and R? Raid support? I read earlier int this thread that L means some SATA2 chip was removed, but it still claims SATA2 support

FYI I'm planning on using this with a core2 duo E6750

Will both support the Penryn chip?

I think the only thing that is missing is Raid, Firewire, and 4 less sata ports.

I have the DS3L and am extremely happy with it.

the DS3R doesn't have firewire either.

Planning a new system, likely in an Antec P182 case, using a GeForce 8800GTS with Thermalright HR-03 cooler. This cooler wraps around the video card, and requires at least 70mm of clearance, which can interfere with tall CPU coolers. I'm looking at GA-P35-DS3P, with the idea of putting the graphics card into the bottom PEG slot - will it work? Or does the first graphics card have to go into the upper slot?

I have one, and looking at my manual, you should put it in the blue slot (the one closer to the CPU) as that's the x16 one and you apparently can't change it. The orange x16-sized slot runs at only x4 (the fact that one of them is x4 is a limitation of the P35 chipset). Note that if you put anything in the x16-running-at-x4 slot, you also lose the functionality of all three of the x1 slots (according to the manual; I haven't tried it).

I have some trouble with my P35-DS4 rev 1.0 motherboard. I have bought a new E6550 CPU. I had E6420 before. With new new cpu I can not set any overvoltage. The CPU seems to be locked at the default 1,35V. (When I set 1,45V it stays at 1,35V)

With the old E6420 I could increase the voltage without any problem...

Does anyone had this problem or know the answer for this?

Anyway

E6420 Could run stable at 426 x 8 @ 1.45V
E6550 Can run stable at 500 x 7 @ 1.35V

My cooler is Zalman 9700 Led

Thanks,
Balutojas

That means the highest speed of memory it supports is DDR2-1066. DDR2-800 will work fine.

is anyone having a boot issue (on cold boot) on the p35-ds3r? its kinda similar to the ip35-e/ip35 one.

This is what I am experiencing..

1. I usually shut off my monitors (2x) before I go to sleep. Turn on the computer in the morning, turn on the 2 monitors, both did not power up (they have the orange light which means its on a stand-by mode). PC is on, nothing on the monitor, I can hear the dvd drives spinning (coz I set the boot priority to CD first before the HDs). Nothing show up on the screen, you can wait for more than 2 mins or so and still nothing.
2. I press on the reset button, and there is no activity as well. The PC seems to be still in ON mode, the fans are turning (I have 4x fans in the antec 900 case), the cpu fan is also turning spontanously (sometimes its on and off).
3. I hold on the reset button for more than a few seconds, then the PC will shut off and will power on again after a second or two. This time the monitors suddenly comes alive. I get the normal screen where i will be asked which OS to boot (XP or Vista).

Anyone experiencing the same stuffs as I am??

Specs for your info:
e6750, p35-ds3r, 2 gb (2x1gb) crucial ballistix
msi geforce 8600gt, corsair hx-520
samsung dvd-rw, sony dvd-rw,
1 seagate 250gb sata and 1 samsung 400gb sata
westinghouse 19" ws LCD + sony 17" CRT
wireless logitech keyboard + mouse (the keyboard is connected to the usb port, mouse in the ps2 port) model #: lx500

no OC in the system. I usually go for stability, so i dont OC (unless its an old system)

I have a P35-DS3P. For some reason, I can't install the 'Media" device so I can't get sound from Windows programs. If I go into the HD sound utility, I get sound, but not from any other programs. Every times it boots, I get asked if I want to install the drivers, but I can't get that to work.

It appears that everything else is working fine.

Any ideas?

Disconnect power from PSU. Hit power button. Reset CMOS. Now boot into BIOS and manually set Vdimm and timing to specs. Reset system.

IP35-E/IP-35 will start-stop-start. That's the double post. The extra start/stop cyle adds about 13 seconds to the boot time.

I just got my Gigabyte DQ6 MB today from Newegg, the DDR2 version and was surprised to see it's a REV 1.0. instead of 1.1.

Only thing I can tell that could be different is the heat sinks. Am I screwed with this or am I ok, I don't care about overclocking and oversized fans etc.

Now I have another problem that I've never had before when building a system. I cannot get the Intel fan installed, I cannot get the pushpins to stay locked and also cannot get all 4 of them down. It seems to be to far to force down the heat sink to me. I'm at a total loss with this and very very discouraged. Brand new DQ6 board, retail Intel processor and I can't get it locked in. Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks

take a look at the installation pins on your heatsink. Make sure each is rotated in the correct (installation) direction. If you don't check beforehand (like I forgot to do), then you'll get frustrated (and have a fit like I did) cuz 1 or more of the pins won't snap in no matter how much you try.

I have the P35-DS3R. My NB runs at 62c. The heatsink is to hot to cool, might go with an after market cooler. Is that to hot?

Thanks for the tip - I was aware of the pin rotation. I have an E6600 system that I built and the heatsink is the same and it just snapped in real easy. This Gigabyte board, it almost seems that the whole processor assembly sits too high causing it to be close to impossible to get the heat sink snapped down. I was able finally last night, to get it down and I hope it stays there. Very very frustrating and as often happens, I'm too quick to seek help or advice. It's just that now after all that screwing around with that heat sink - I don't have much faith the board will even post...we'll see in a few hours as I'm putting the rest of the components in today.

Thanks again

Well, I'm back with good news for me...The thing is up and running it seems. I have not loaded Vista yet but it came up in the BIOS etc and I set some things that needed setting such as memory voltage increase to 2.1 volts etc.

Now my question is how do I find what BIOS version is on the MB as it does not stop long enough to see the line that has that information. As a matter of fact, I rarely can even get it into the bios, it boots past all that stuff so fast that the option screen is on there for a flash if even that. I have to try many times to get into the bios using the DEL key. I've never seen this before, is there a way to slow that thing down during the early boot phase so I can have time to make some decisions? I also set up my RAID1 with my two Seagate 500 gig drives, it found my Liteon CD/DVD drive also without trouble. I'm impressed, it's VERY quiet even with the Evga 8800GTS 640 in there.

Now if I could find my bios version and maybe update it to F6...I'd be happy..

A thread with myself....

I finally got it to stop long enough to see the BIOS version, it was F4, I updated it to the latest, F6 without issues using a USB flash. Now I have to give loading VISTA a try and see if it will take an F6 driver load from USB instead of floppy.

Glad it is working out for you. I've had the P35-DQ6 for a couple months and it works great. I'm still using the F4 bios. Do you recommend updating the Bios to F6?

That's a good question and after updating I could see no difference in the setup. I think there are some fixes listed on the Gigabyte site, also think none of the fixes were an issue with my system. Glad to hear you like your DQ6, do you have rev 1.0 like me? I think Gigabyte makes a good board and I was not only impressed but relieved when it all came up so easy. I have Vista Home Premium installed now and the first thing it did was download 122meg of updates, I've not installed the video drivers yet etc but so far I'm pretty happy, I wonder how much of my software won't work....

Just a quick question for you, how long does your boot stay in that screen where you can see the bios version and also the function key options down at the bottom. Mine is only there for a flash..
