Hi, welcome to AT forums. It is normal for the board to beep if memory is missing. But no, the reboot-loop isn't normal. Your board is booting but obviously it isn't able to finish the POST. Is your video card seated firmly? Also have you tried booting with a single memory stick? Some boards don't like CPU fan not plugged. Make sure your CPU fan is plugged to where it's marked as such.

Thanks for your reply, the CPU fan is plugged into the CPU fan slot, I have tried 1 stick of ram in the white slot labeled 1. I an trying with no video card at this point.

I have tried 1 stick of ram in the white slot labeled 1.

Some people have problems because they put the RAM in the wrong slot. They assume it goes in the first slot. It sounds like you have it in the right place. The second slot from the CPU, right? I have mine running with 2 stickes - as required with 1 stick in each white slot (DDR3_1 and DDR3_3 - the second and fourth slots from the CPU).

Have you made sure that your heatsink fan is properly seated with the pegs visible through the backside of the board? You may want to plug your video card in and see if it is POSTing.

Be aware that the GA P55M-UD2 mobo is very picky about RAM(many mobos are very picky) according to the reviews I have seen. I looked at what you are trying to use and what is on UD2's Memory List and I don't see your RAM modules listed so that may be the problem. If you go and bring up the UD2 on New Egg and look at what the reviewers are saying you'll see many are using G.Skill RipJaw modules. After seeing others from HF and XS using Ripjaws also I'd say to those wanting to get the UD2 to use those as preferred to anything else since they are proven. They are also listed on the UD2 Memory List. They also OC pretty nicely from what I have read.

Thanks for the replies,

I am using the white slots, the memory I linked is the most common from all threads ive found to use in this board. I did ensure the heatsink pins are through the board properly.

Im pretty sure at this point I will RMA the board and go with the MSI... it has very good reviews and the internet does not appear to be plagued by this issue for it !

Thanks for all the help

Did you RMA the board or are you still fighting through? I checked the motherboard manual. See page 112. Short continuous beeps indicate a power error. Unplug and reseat both the 8-pin power connector and the 24-pin power connector.

Then connect your video card and see how far you're getting through the POST process. Can you get into the BIOS?

Try with one stick of RAM in the DDR3_1 slot. If that doesn't work try with the other stick in that slot. If that still doesn't work, try with one stick in the DDR3_3 slot. Finally, try with the other stick in that slot.

Listen for any other beeps during this testing.

Hey guys
I've been working on this issue with Levesque
I have the exact same build, only difference is ram
when i first put my build together, i used my old power supply(500 watt)
worked without an issue, put in my new 750 watt power supply, the pc wouldn't post at all.
all fans just ran full tilt. no signal to Vid at all.
put back in my old power supply, again worked fine
got levesque's CPU and Ram...they worked fine in my board
Just got his 2 power supplies, 700 watt and 500 watt, neither work, his gives off beeps and cycles.
so i'm thinking it has something to do with the power supply obviously...but what
his 700 watt and my 750 watt are brand new
the 500 watt might have had 6 months use out of it
the only one that actually works it this Generic PSU i pulled out of an old tower the dog chewed half the wires off of lol.

this board is very picky about the RAM.
I made sure to choose RAM from gigabytes approved list on their website.

If you are getting a continuous loop when trying to post.. then i would first try clearing the CMOS.. and see what happens...

I had this happen, unplugged the cord from the USB header and boom, worked fine. Give that a try....

Not a great long term solution though, I figure I'm going to end up replacing this board with another...

just as a quick heads up
the issue was actually the power supply
99% of boards out there 2.2v boards, this board is 2.3
there for requiring a psu that supports 2.3
we found one, all is working.

Thanks for letting us know the resolution. How do you know if one board needs V2.3, especially when most of the same model work with V2.2? How would we spot that in the future?

well i'm not sure is there is something written on the board, but we found out when we emailed gigabyte directly.
will have to check when i get home to see if there is anything on the Box that would indicate the 2.3 over the 2.2.

i thought you had the same exact setup as the OP except for the RAM.
are you saying there are 2 versions of p55-ud2s?

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm currently considering this board for my i7 860 build. However, I have a pretty old psu (fortron ax450-pn) with 18amps on each of the two 12v rails. Should I avoid this motherboard and look for another? Which mobo wouldn't have this problem that you would recommend?

Thanks,

This board works fine with my Corsair CMPSU-450VX which is ATX V2.2. Unrelated, are you sure the two rails are really split.

Believe so, I have the 2.01v model. The psu states +12V1@18A and +12V2@18A, however the combine may be 29A max. Hoping this is fine with a i7 860 and p55m-ud2.

I'm looking to jump into the low cost UD2 party, but this ATX 2.3 requirement, could make my Corsair 400CX unusable.

But, isn't the 2.3 spec only about efficiency? From the wiki:

ATX12V v2.3

The most recent revision, effective March 2007. Efficiency recommendations were increased to 80% (with at least 70% efficiency required), and the 12 V load requirement was lowered. Higher efficiency generally results in less power consumption (and less waste heat), and the 80% recommendation brings supplies in line with new Energy Star 4.0 mandates.[10] The reduced load requirement allows compatibility with processors that draw very little power during startup. The absolute over current limit (240VA per rail) is no longer present, enabling 12V line to provide more than 20A per rail.

Once again, for what it's worth, this board works fine with my Corsair CMPSU-450VX which is ATX V2.2. Last time I checked I couldn't find a PSU spec requirement for the board. That doesn't mean there isn't one, I was actually surprised not to find one.

i use this with a corsair 400cx, works fine.
