Do you have the NEC/Renesas drivers installed? Due to changes in the chip IDs since Renesas got them, you may need to use one from GB's website, rather than the generic.

...and, uh, what's FF3?

The problem falls more in the fact of the USB 3.0 drivers. Gigabyte used NEC drivers and windows will detect the drivers but it still reverts to USB 2.0 speeds.

Ok firmware said it was up to date. I tried my Dell U3014 USB hub and it registers as a USB 2.0 hub. But when I put it into the USB 2.0 port

When I install my note 3 it shows in this photo REnesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller and Root Hub and shows the samsung device but it only transfers at USB 2.0 speeds

I am really confused is there a motherboard setting I need to change??
As you can see in the USB 2.0 port the Card reader reads correctly and it shows everything. However when I connect the phone or the USB Hub from the Dell Monitors they are misread and revert to 2.0 speeds. The USB Hub from the monitor usually just fails to function

If the fault started after a BIOS update, then if the BIOS update did not make useful improvements, try downgrading it; but if it did, the easiest thing to do would be to get a card for USB 3.0.

EDIT: IS it possible that I need to flash the firmware? Right now it is at firmware 3034. If I flash it to an earlier version maybe I will have a better chance of using it?

Before any firmware downgrade, try uninstalling: right click in Device Manager & uninstall, then reboot.
Or maybe try booting with the latest Ubuntu bootable optical disk or USB thumb drive, and see if the USB 3.0 port works.

In a negative situation with the MSI P67A GD65 last year. It used the hideous Renesas/NEC chipset. The problems included cycles of disconnect and reconnect. Refusal to use 3.0 product or speed any USB 2.0 device in the port worked fine. USB 3.0 randomly disconnected during a file transfer after a amount of time. We tried new 3.0 rated high quality cables updating both chips updating to any number of drivers a new 3.0 memory card reader changing OS replacement 3.0 front panel. Surprising how many others had the same problems. None of the motherboard manufacturers support we contacted would talk to us about it.

Our solution was to buy another motherboard with native USB 3.0 support from Intel and a processor that supported it end of all problems. Either something must have been faulty or more likely laziness and a lack of testing.

My vote is on the latter. I regularly used NEC/Renesas based cards, and have had zero problems with them. But, they can either get firmware when the driver loads (most likely), or have newer generic firmware on them, where the mobo is going to have custom firmware.

No: the USB 3.0 firmware is an entirely separate and independent factor from the USB 3.0 device driver. They do interact to some degree, so it's best to have both firmware and driver of the same general time frame, if possible. But running the latest driver along with an older USB 3.0 device firmware will not somehow update the firmware by itself. You must seek out and intentionally apply any USB 3.0 firmware update as a separate item.
Note: some other motherboard device firmwares, such as LAN, Intel RST, CPU microcode, as examples, are firmware updated via motherboard bios updates.

I wasn't sure, TBH. It's getting quite common these days for firmwares to be part of the driver, with just BIOS/EUFI boot-time minimal parts burned in, and it makes a lot of sense to do it that way.

Basically giving up on this, I wrote Gigabyte and their response was "use the drivers from our website".

Shame I was really hoping to get these to work, I have tried every driver but they just dont recognize USB 3.0 it defaults to USB 2.0 I wonder if its a bios setting that I am missing

Your overclock is most likely causing the issue.. Try running it at stock clock speeds and see if problem still exists.

Yeah OC settings should be taken out and then figure it out.

If you were happy with just USB 2.0 and OC'd and can lose 3.0, then you have a decision to make.
