I ordered mine off tigerdirect on Saturday the 26th. With the holiday, it may not arrive until next week.

This is my first discrete GPU ever. I'd like to try my luck at overclocking it a bit, but don't know the process and the necessary software.

Can someone give me a quick run through on the steps to overclock this card (gpu core and memory) and what software is needed for stability testing? How long are stability tests generally required to run before getting an approval rating?

Cheers for the help.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to pitch in.

My new Gigabyte GTX 670 clocks in at a steady 1202 MHz - though I haven't tried overclocking yet, as I do not feel the need.

However, I think my AMD Phenom II X6 1055T is bottlenecking, as most games only utilize about a 60-70 GPU usage. Battlefield 3 singleplayer does force a gpu usage of 98 % in peaks - but is also hovering around the 80 mark.

Though, the weird thing is that the CPU is never at 99 % - but mostly hovers around 60 %. Therefore, I didn't expect a CPU bottleneck. Perhaps I should try more extreme overclocking than my current 3.4 GHz.

just because your cpu is not maxed out does not mean its not a bottleneck. not every game will utilize every core and just the architecture itself could be slower clock for clock.

Just to add my core 1241(as long as i keep the card under 70c,which is not difficult with this card) is solid as a rock in all benchmarks and games i own,mem is stable at 7508,using clocks in my sig 24/7 though.also that mem was still giving me positve results although after 7000 and onwards it was very minor.

You can use EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner... both are free

Hi there Destiny,I'm new to the forums and I've recently purchased this GPU, not to mention I have a very similar rig! Link: http://pcpartpicker.com/uk/p/9Qkh
So I was wondering, due to the extremely similar rig, how happy you are with the card, the temps and benchmarks etc! Also, as you can see in the link, I have a 550w PSU like yours, so that should be enough?

Thanks!

Hi guys, I just got a Gigabyte WIndforce GTX 670 and installed in my rig. I've run 3DMark and Heaven while running GPU-Z and my max clock speed is 1097.4. It seems like my card is significantly lower than everyone else's out-of-box speed. Am I missing a step in measuring boost clock out of the box? Or did I lose the lottery? :|

For reference, this is my build:
CPU: i5-3750k
GPU: GB Windforce GTX 670
PSU: Corsair Enthusiast 650w
Mobo: Asus P8Z77-V
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB
SSD : Crucial M4 128GB
HDD : Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 2TB
Cooler: CM Hyper 212 EVO
Case: Corsair Carbide 500R
Optical: LG WH14NS40
Monitor: Asus 248H-P

Thanks!

The temperture is very low... like in the single digits when idle. I use MSI Afterburner to auto adjust the fan speeds on the Windforce... it never goes over 70 degrees Celsius. I am very happy with the card's performance! I borrowed my friends 2560x1440p monitor to see if the card can run it - it ran on ultra with no issues and good FPS.

Yes the 550w PSU is more than enough! Assuming you are not planning to go SLI...

I'm not sure if you are collecting the data right... use Techpowerup GPU-Z or MSI afterburner - then choose the highest point in the graph and that number should tell you what the max boost clock speed is... mines top out at 1163MHz

Firstly, thanks for taking the time toi reply. But, I just played BF3 on Ultra for an hour or so earlier and GPU-Z showed highest core clock at 1097.4 and MSI Afterburner also reported 1097.

I guess you are supposed to consider yourself lucky because you are only guaranteed to get 1058MHz. /sarc

Sorry, I'm not insensitive to your position. This is one of the biggest concerns with GPU boost. The one you buy won't wind out like the ones in the reviews. It's too bad there's no way to review these cards at their guaranteed specifications so people can know what they can expect if they get a card that only runs at the guaranteed spec. Or, in your case, slightly higher.

Geothegreat100, you really should start a new thread in the General Hardware section of this forum. One piece of advice to start you off: if you're new to building systems, you probably should not purchase the 3930k. That's a special purpose CPU.

This has been an immensely helpful thread! I'm pretty much on board to get one these. Just waiting to save up some cash.

While not ideal, I got all three cards stacked in there with adequate spacing. I have an AC unit blowing into the card stack and the temps are in the mid 50s. When I had two cards with generous spacing my load temps were low 40s. I wish there were flexible tri-SLI bridges that would allow me to space these guys out from the master card.

Pics of AC unit?

Hello guys, yesterday my 670 arrived and today i did a 3DMark11 benchmark and these are the results:

Is that score normal, cause it seems too low to me? Could it be, cause my cpu is an old Core Duo E6400 and my ram is 4gb value kingston ram and that's why i get that score?

i absolutely guarantee you that you won't notice a difference. I went from a X6-1100T @ 3.8ghz to a 2500k @ 4.4ghz, it performs exactly the same in all games when AA is switched on & quality settings are maximized all @ 1080p. It was the most pointless upgrade ever and DO NOT listen to anyone that tells u otherwise. The differences are so minute taht they can only be shown on charts, in real world gaming i noticed jack all difference.

Your 1055T is more than capable of powering and feeding your Gigabyte GTX 670 OC as i have the exact same card.

You are probably getting 30-40% of the performance of the 670 with that CPU. I tested an E6600 for fun with an HD7970 vs. a 6970 and the improvement in games was anywhere from negative to 10%.....You need to upgrade that CPU ASAP. It's horribly bottlenecking your 670. An E6400 even bottlenecked a GTX460 all the way back in 2010.

BF:BC2
Starcraft II
F1 2010

Huge E6400 CPU bottleneck!

That's probably if you play BF3 mainly, which likes a lot of cores. It has already been shown that 2500K doesn't outperform OCed X6 / Bulldozer FX-8150 in BF3. Also BF3 is mostly a GPU-limited game with a single-GPU. The CPU bottleneck becomes an issue with 2 670 GPUs in that game.

If you look at other games, the CPU bottleneck is definitely there with the AMD processors. That's not to say that they'll make games unplayable but you definitely won't get maximum performance out of the 670 with an AMD processor. If you crank MSAA/SSAA in games like Witcher 2, Max Payne 3 or Sleeping Dogs, of course you'll be entirely GPU limited. However, keep in mind the CPU helps a lot for minimum framerates as well.

Yeah, i know, that's what i thought too
I'm thinking about assembling an ITX system. Something like i5-3570K and an Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe in a Bitfenix Prodigy case, cause i'm tired of my big CM Haf case.
Just need to hide 500 bucks from my girlfriend hahahah

What is your HTT (FSB) and what multiplier for CPU-NB?

There is no game that maxes out (or is programmed to max out) six 3.4 GHz cores. Naturally you will see lower CPU usage. When you overclock your 1055T keep in mind that MHz isn't everything. (figuratively speaking)
