Hi all - I've just been installing my new build, spec:

- Intel 2500K
- Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3, rev1.0,
- 8GB Corsair DDR3 1600 (9-9-9-24)
- Cruical Real SSD C300 64GB
- AMD HD6870
- Corsair 850W PSU
- Fractal Design XL

I set SATA mode to AHCI, left other BIOS options @ default, no OC yet. Booted from my Win7 x64 DVD and formatted SSD during this install (that an ok way to do it???). Install went smoothly as expected. Did not load any additional drivers during install. Read a couple of places that with Intel Chipset its best let Windows do its thing.

However, the machine seems slow to load into windows compared to my old CPU + MB combination (was an AMD PII x4 965). What happens is it posts, pretty fast, then goes to black screen with the following white text at the top:

'Loading Operating System...'

Then the cursor counts in dots to 20 (takes around 1sec per dot) across the screen i.e.

'Loading Operation System...
....................'

Then I get the Windows Loading screen and a couple of seconds later I'm at my desktop. My issue begin the phase where 20 dots appear - this takes about 20secs and I remember this phase being almost instant or max 3 dots, 3 seconds on my old PC :S

Any ideas what is going on?

Thanks in advance for any help

Update = solved, was boot order related.

Turn off the RAID controller. If that is on it will take forever to boot..

Update:

Apparently CD-ROM was before HD in the boot order and think it was allowing a set time (i.e. 20secs) to search for a CD even when there was non present in the drive :S

Anyway, I've set HD to 1st boot device and now it loads nice and fast again

Thanks for the advice - had already turned off the Marvel RAID controller as yes it does take an age.

I just bought a Z68XP-UD3P and had a similar problem that drove me crazy. When it would get to windows it would hang - turned out it was my external hard drive causing it, even though I had disabled booting external drives and set my SSD to boot first in BIOS.

I just keep it unplugged now until I need to use it and I'm getting fast ~20sec boots

Same issue here.. just swapped the boot order to HDD first. Just hit F12 if you want to boot from CD at start up
