just got and hooked up my GA-MA770-S3 and to be kind it was a pain in the ass to get booted. From there, the IDE controller isn't vista compatiable that means, I have to go to their website and endure 25KB/s download to get the drivers that I pray will work(they're being insatalled on a usb drive on another computer because vista also can't/wont find the ethernet driver.... and before you blame this on vista this board was release 4th quarter 2007 from what I can tell, what gives?! are they all this bad?

I've honestly never been impressed with anything by Gigabyte. I had a few friends who had some GA boards back in the socket 7 days and the first run of Athlons. UFFDA is all I have to say. Luckily, I went with ASUS and bought an A7V board and skipped the issues.

Most mainboard manufacturers are located outside of the states and not all have fast pipes or servers setup all over the world. I can say with certainty that ASUS usually has a few download links with servers in EU, China, USA, etc. The speeds are not always the fastest, but I just grabbed the ASUS Probe software online because I didn't want to grab the disc that is inside my motherboard box. It was about 125KB/sec, so it was more than tolerable.

Either way, 25KB/sec isn't bad. I mean, you just gotta feel for the people who cling to their dialup, right?

True, 25kb isn't too bad... if they didn't leave files out of their zipped files. and I magically got it to recongize the dvd rom, just the lack of IDE drivers makes it kind of hard to use(doesn't read any CD in drive). Sooo, I think this thing goes back to the egg and I'll just pick up MSI or ASUS this is taking up way too much of my time I could be usig for sleep. I realy don't want to sound like an A-hole or a fanboi but this is stupid, my old POS epox was a better board than this.

How is this Gigabyte's fault? AMD made the chipset.
I guess I used the wrong word. it's not incompatiable with vista, just the driver is not included in the vista drivers.

I blame them becase it's more than just that... it just makes it more of a pain in the ass to get it to work, which still isn't happening. And even if Gigabyte is in no way responsible for such a pos mobo then they shouldn't put their name on it, simple as that. In it's current state I am unable to READ a CD from a CD-ROM that I somehow got it to recongize, not able to use PCI ethernet(device failed to load no matter what), not able to use more than 1 monitor on my 7600GT w/o a BSOD --worked fine with my epox-- USB and audio are both not recongized, so basically, I can boot... no NB no SB no PCI or PCIe beyond basic 'hey it's there'. That is why I blame Gigabyte.

I've never used a Gigabyte motherboard on the AMD side. On the Intel side I have no complaints, although there have been some bugs in a few of their boards. (Most notably the whole DPC latency issue.)

Gigabyte seemed to be the mobo maker of choice recently, having taken the torch from DFI, I guess, but i've seen a RASH of anti-gigabyte posts lately. Same with ASUS. It could just be isolated problems I've seen on these forums but the profound worship of both Gigabyte and ASUS seems to be dying down.

I still miss EpoX.

my GA-G33-DS2R worked well as did most of their P35's and now their P45's are fine.

I used a Gigabyte socket 370 board with a Tualatin 1.3 GHz for a couple of years as for my music server and it was 100% problem-free.

I just built my new gaming system with Gigabyte's P43 board, E8400, 4GB, ATI 4870 and it has been equally problem-free in its first few weeks of life. Vista 64 and XP Pro both installed without any issues.

So from my sample size of 2, Gigabyte makes great boards for intel CPUs.

I've got my ep35-ds3r rev 2.1. It is not problem free as I still have one tiny issue that even their tech support can't solve. But does not hinder performance and I love it.

back in the day I used to tell people "dell is utter shit"... that was based on my experiences with them, other goods and services available in the US, building by myself, etc...
after experiencing their competitors I changed it to "dell is utter shit, and are the best company to buy computers from".

Same thing applies in components.
2/5 stars: Asus.
1/5 stars: Gigabyte and MSI.
-2/5 and below stars: everyone else.

Welcome to the computer industry, now bend over and grab your ankles.

Virtual BIOS wouldn't be so bad if you could use a USB key for it. They're using dual BIOS chips in their P4x boards now at least.

my current board ( see signature below ) is a great board and is my second gigabyte board i have owned. my first board was K8N ultra with an AMD FX-60 chip. it also ran great for me and overclocking was very easy for both boards. i ran vista on both mobo's with no trouble at all. one thing i always do before any motherboard upgrade is make cd with all the drivers and such on it so that i have the drivers ready
