You are asking a relative experie3nce question first right? I would say ask that question of someone who has done a few-many rebates first. Like have they had 100% of their rebates come back? What percentage you got ~V~ not????? Have you got a rebate recieved and paid with this particular vendor?
I try to buy my stuff in cheapsest fashion w/out a rebate or cheap price used on a For Sale/Trade forum

my experience of rebate recieved VS not recieved to be about 60% got. 40% not.
Oh, also add shipping and taxes on the original amount paid before rebates and BEFORE you get your product and then get your dinero....
just my 2¢

Be careful about this product, I bought it and it does not work with Windows XP despite trying all sorts of things. I can get it to work for a bout 5 minutes sometimes, but it shuts itself off or freezes and just doesn't work overall.

I also tried using it with my Tivo and the Tivo did not recognize it at all.

I hope the rebate comes back because I did not try this thing until after the return policy was up.

IF anyone has any suggestions on how to get it to work in XP I am listening and would be glad to be proved wrong.

They do carry this at their B&M locations, and if you choose your local store, the website will let you do in store pickup.

Dang - I'm picking one up today specificially for my TiVo, I was hoping it would work.
Don't know if I'll keep it anyway or not.

I bought this awhile ago when the special was just starting, and it works just fine with win2k pro. I don't see why it wouldn't work with XP.

Heard good stuff about it on Win2K, so jumped on the deal and got myself one.

The rebate goes to Niagara Falls, NY so it will probably come through but VERY SLOW!

pcclub are scumbags!
The way they do business it seems they are related to tiger direct somehow.

I had called and asked if they have it in store and they said yes.
Drove there they had none!
Payed cash for store pickup and was promised one.
Drove to the store again and they had none!

Manager starts badmouthing frys and other stores, how THEY treat customers (?!), but offered no remedy except of the same promise as above. Oh yes, and a much more expensive unit (w/o rebates).

I filed complaints and put some feedback for them.

Typical bait & switch.
Avoid!

They do seem to do that a lot, I generally call minutes before leaving for the store, letting them know that I'm coming and that I want them to hold it behind the counter. Since I started doing that I've had no problems (Denver Flatiron store)

I got this puppy a few weeks ago when the special started to put in my MAME arcade cabinet (under win98) works like a champ, and now I can download/upgrade my MAME cabinet over the network using VNC, no need to even plug a keyboard in.

I've had no problems running this one with Windows XP. It gets pretty good signal strength and link quality, considering the horrible position I have my router placed (under a table, next to a subwoofer). Even with 128-bit encryption turned on, I don't really notice and lag in web surfing. It is a pretty good unit for a FAR item. Of course, YMMV because I am also using a Gigafast wireless router (the CompUSA barnded one that was running for $26.99 without any rebates), so it may not be quite as happy with another brand of router.

When I was picking mine up, I also saw the MSI wireless PCI card for $25.99. I got one because it looked promising, since it had a little antenna on a wire you could reposition to get a better signal. Surely it would work better than this little USB dongle, I thought. Wrong. The drivers for the MSI product were craptacular, and would always ask me for my encryption key whenever I tried to access my network, even though I pasted the key into the correct field in the security configuration page half a dozen times. When I finally got it going, the signal strength and link quality were noticably lower than the Gigafast dongle, and it lagged horribly when it brought up new web pages. To add insult to injury, there was no uninstall option for the card utility and I couldn't find it in the program files listing. I had to run GoBack to exorcise the ghost of the card from my PC. So I really appreciate the Gigafast product after that experience. I've been downloading literally gigabytes of data from BitTorrent using it, and it hasn't crapped out yet. (Gets pretty hot though).

On a related note, I was able to get some D-Link drivers working with the Gigafast Cardbus card, but I couldn't get the ones from the DWL-122 (Dlink's version of the WiFi dongle) to work. Anyone had luck with any other manufacturer's drivers? I know my laptop card rocks with the DWL-650+ drivers.

Has anyone tried to get this to work with the 128 bit encryption turned on? I tried 3 differrent systems and two differrent routers and couldn't connect to the internet, even though the software said I had a solid connection and signal strength.

Got mine this evening. Installed fine, but the signal.. I thought that PCMCIA cards had poor performance. I have a D-Link 614+ and the 650+ and they work well together, this on the end of the USB extension cord they provide blows! Maybe 100% link quality (if I'm lucky normally 80%) but a max signal of 50%. The 650+ is getting 100%/80%+ in the same location. Thank god it's free!

On the subject of drivers, the Linksys has a USB dongle also anyone tried that one?

One week! And they had promised me to put one away for me (because I had payed already). And one of the clerks told me that they had received quite many.
It always boils down to the style of a company, top down. If the owners are crooks, the managers (and the rest) are crooky too. That particular manager offered me a "similar" unit from another company (I think it was Linksys) for $60, w/o rebates.....

No, I specifically asked them if it was OK to pick it up on that date, because I pass that store only 2 x a week on my weekend trips.

Believe me, pcclub is a crook store.
My friend had ordered online, was deducted the amount (CC) but never received the unit.
When he called them, they told him that they can refund his money only if he ships it back (!) on his own expense and they will deduct a restocking fee on top of that. He told them that he never received it in the first place and they hung up on him!

As it turned out, this product is bad, the company selling it are crooks, now let's see if the majority will get their rebates.....

pcclub = crooks!

The rebate is a totally different ball game. I just sent mine in, attached all the paperwork etc. And will bug the heck out of them till they send me my rebate, but PCClub did a pretty good job in sending the card over on time. Ordered it online, had it installed on the 3rd working day. $6.50 Shipping within CA.

So if the rebate comes in, definitely a GREAT deal!
You should go to the ~~~~ Brag & Moan ~~~~ thread or tell your story for your Momma.
This topic is about "Gigafast USB 802.11b Wireless FREE" and *NOT* whatever you bought from them!
Look at the complaints about them, many people have said the same thing about them here and on other threads/boards .

pcclub = crooks!
