CNBC Power Lunch today is supposed to have an interview with the reporter from Inside Magazine who uncovered the truth on Ginger. It should be revealed any minute now...

Yeah I saw the report on CNBC. My question is: Isn't a hydrogen engine really dangerous because it is highly explosive? If the engine caught on fire the explosion might level a city block; no? Is hydroge a safe energy alternative? I'm thinking of the hydrogen bomb and Space Shuttle Challenger and shaking my head.

If it can be properly contained, it is not an issue; however, that is one big contingency. With his past inventions, I'd imagine he has figured a way to properly contain the hydrogen safely, though.

Actually, the volatility of hydrogen has been exaggerated I believe. Any hydrogen leaks very quickly dissipate because it is much less dense than air. I don't see why hydrogen should be any more dangerous than gasoline.

It'd actually be kinda funny to watch an exploding scooter level a city block. That is unless of course you are in that city block. And you thought car pileups were bad...

Here's an interesting link about hydrogen. Contrary to popular belief, the Hindenburg didn't go down because of a hydrogen fire.

<< "With proper handling," Van Vorst said, "hydrogen is no more hazardous than gasoline and may, indeed, be less so. >>

FDA also approves equipment for disabled people (and the elderly). This means even old people will be able to use them

One bad thought I just had, since it's approved for disabled & old people, there will be no excessive "G" forces, meaning acceleration will take forever, and top speed of probably 20mph I'm guessing

Cool link bober

<< Furthermore, the substance used to coat the cotton skin ? a process known as "doping" which makes the fabric taut and more durable ? was extremely flammable. A combination of iron oxide, cellulose acetate and aluminum powder >>

:Q

OMG, the people who designed that coating were complete idiots!! Iron oxide and aluminum powder combined creates thermite, a compound that when ignited, will melt through solid steel.

Wasn't ginger supposed to change transportation forever or something? Sure it will for old people but if it only goes 20MPH there's no way I'm gonna sit behind that granny on the interstate

Mutilator,

The 20MPH is just PliotronX's speculation. For someone who invented the insulin pump, I would imagine Dean Kamen will do something more significant than a 20MPH geriatric scooter.

wtf?? it really is a freaking scooter? :|

what a piece of sh!t.. how is this going to be bigger than the internet, make him richer than bill gates in 2 years?? we've had motor scooters for decades, they already sip gas so whats the big f*cking deal?

on a side note.. I watched Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal both a couple weeks ago, I can't remember which one it was on, but wasn't there some guy on one of this inverntor guy's wheelchairs? I saw it climbing up stairs, wasn't that his invention?
