there's a bunch of these knives, the ginsu 2000 actually, for sale on e-bay. anyone know if they're good or bad? there's hundreds of sets of 10 for sale for less than $1.00 and after shipping still less than $5.00 a set. how bad can they be?

Good or Bad? They could be good, if you were to cut some carrots and making a salad. But I think they'd be bad if you dropped one on your foot....yeah, I'd say they're bad and good at the same time....

(thus concludes my way-too-early-in-the-morning/crackead post)

Are you planning on cutting through lead pipe? I've heard they're good with that.

A dollar store in Canada? That would make it a $.65 Store here in the US
To make it fair, they should make them $1.54 stores so then it'll really a dollar store - get it?

Bad.

BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD!!!!

My roomate picked up a set of these for a couple of bucks, and they weren't even worth that. They're so flimsy, they'll bend permanently if you try cutting anything harder than butter. They rusted after their first wash in the dishwasher...so much for "stainless steel." And to top it off, they're dangerous. I was cutting chicken (no bones, just a breast), pressed hard on the knife, and the handle broke off. The blade flipped back around, and cut my palm as I pressed down. It didn't require stitches or anything, but after that, all the Ginsu's were thrown away.

STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!

Do yourself a favor, spend a couple more bucks and get a nice knife set. Anything on sale @ Linens & Things or the Cellar at Macy's or a kitchen store. ANYTHING is better than these. Trust me!

The Ginsu knife does everything in the commercial that it advertises except cut chicken, beef, fish, butter, bread, any vegatables, chopping, dicing, slicing, etc.. This knife is not intended to be used in a kitchen. It is very sharp and you would think that it would work very well, but with the odd serration of the blade, it tends to shred food products. The few times I used the knife really hacked up the item I was cutting and scratched up (NOT cut) the wooden chopping block I was using.

Wow! From some of the replies you guys are giving I guess their quality has gone down over the last 20 years.

The Canadian Ginsu's must be different or else their quality must have gone bad because I've had a set for about 5-6 years and they still cut very well. I can slice tomatoes paper thin. They didn't cost a buck though, I think they were closer to $20 for 5.

My family has had a set of Ginsu's for about 7-8 years now. Back then, they were more along the line of ultravox's stated price, about $30 for a set of 6 (and they came with a set of four "free" steak knives). They work great, especially the steak knives.

Wow, I must be lucky then. I got my set of Ginsu 2000 knives off fleabay, no problems at all. I frequently use them to cut through big, thick cuts of meat.
