That's actually a good idea. Rather than the state pay for this I think they can make their own income. Legalize vegetable prostitution.

Well that doesn't make any sense. It isn't a person. Why keep it alive? Why give it a name? Why dress it up in cute little girl clothes?

It reveals us to be the dumb animals that we are when something only has to be about the right shape and size to make us love it. I read that ducks will instinctually perform a rolling motion with their head and bill to get an egg back into the nest when it falls out. If you take the egg away mid-motion, the duck still goes right on making the motion until the "program" hard wired into it's brain ends. Doesn't matter if the egg is there or not as long as the conditions are right to get it started. I guess that's all we do as well when we love a baby. Doesn't matter if it's a real baby. The conditions just have to be right to activate the wiring that was in our heads all along.

I would say pull the plug, but the plug should have never been connected in the first place. You know it ain't never going to get better, and it doesn't even know it.

Love how they call it a miracle baby. Umm no... sorry... its quite the opposite.

Looks like the parents were born without brains as well. Hereditary disorder?

Oh, also, God said, "I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations."

Makes sense I suppose.

Between this thread and the growing a vagina one, Anand forums have been comedy gold this morning.

Was not disappoint.

So, she's technically not brain dead because she doesn't have one to begin with and her stem is working...

Disability check and tax refund.

Do you know the tremendous amount of care and commitment it would take to give this girl a basic quality of life? Any disability check or refund would be a drop in the bucket as payment.

You need to spend some time in a hospice and realize the world does not always revolve around healthy scenarios. Some people are merely playing the hand dealt.

Not to say I would keep the baby myself, but I wouldn't judge anyone's personal decision either.

In this case, its OK. Go ahead and judge them. They are idiots. Also, someone called this thing a "husk". I find that comment absolutely disgusting and I fully support the comment.

All weak. P&N is that-a-way ------>

And anyone who believes in this left/right BS already has the job description of useful idiot to most politicians.

Without a brain the body is just a sack of organs existing for no purpose. The idea of trying to provide a "basic quality of life" is absolutely pointless when there's zero way of her experiencing that. It's like trying to provide a quality life to a rock. There's no soul there.

I know this is tough for you modern progressives to wrap your minds around, but If I am helping to pay for it I will judge it.

a week before the birth? of course she's going to carry it to term.
afterwards, what should they do? Kill it in its sleep? By that line of thinking we'd all have to go around killing anybody with a deteriorative neurological disorder "yo grandma', cuz of alzheimers yo brain don't work bitch, eat lead!".

For pure amusement and comparison's sake, grandma actually paid into the system that is keeping her alive and possibly birthed an entire clan that still fondly remember her as the lady from yesteryear. I would say that gives her a little edge in the "which to keep alive" argument.

no brain, how can you give an biological mass with no consciousness a name

it's atrocious that they've kept the thing "alive" for 6 years, torture for everyone involved

this isn't just a neurological disorder, it's the actual lack of a neural tissue absolutely necessary to be self-aware - so I don't buy the slippery slope of "we might start killing everyone with a brain disorder"

good point. where do we draw the line?

For pure amusement and comparison's sake, grandma actually paid into the system that is keeping her alive and possibly birthed an entire clan that still fondly remember her as the lady from yesteryear. I would say that gives her a little edge in the "which to keep alive" argument.
the mother of the brainless child also formed a connection with her child as well. Why is her connection to her brainless child any less invalid than the hypothetical braindead grandma's family's connection to her? Any 'paying into the system' is a very cynical outlook on life.

FWIW, I do think keeping the child alive is waste of time and effort, and is very selfish on the parents' part..although, without a brain, is the child emotionally suffering? Doubt it. So keeping her alive is, as someone else said, keeping alive a carrot. So is it still selfish on the parents' part?

I can't believe this even has to be said.

You let it die. That is not the same as "killing it in its sleep".

It sucks, but that's life.
