then all your cities are covered in rancid bodies, the chemicals they left behind, and the shit of all those scavengers. "Back to normal" wouldn't take weeks, it would be years. And by the time you wanna go back, buildings have gone to shit and could be infested with all kinds of nasty animals.

Mass killing would also probably set off a lot of fires or other catastrophes. Just about every large city would be on fire, places like southern California could entirely burn up.

Sans repeating what our friend correctly said about the five major fields, I will say this: We live and die for philosophy. Even if we don't realize it, nearly everything we believe is predicated on someone's philosophical investigations. To debase the mother of all sciences as a "waste of the taxpayer's money" is to admit barefaced ignorance.

Oh yeah, and philosophy majors score higher than any other majors on the graduate exam; mathematics students come in second. Maybe they're doing something right.

That's what I was thinking. I don't know exactly what they do, but I'd think a grade school command of the the alphabet and numbers combined with the maturity of age should be sufficient.

It is, I ran a library while I was still in high school. Computers were still new (my first PC was in ~82, a Kaypro 10) so we had the old card system and dewy decimal. I literally cant fathom how or why there would even be a degree for such a thing, especially with the ease of modern computer systems.
