Jesus H Christ, not this shit again. 95% of Americans do jobs that will be replaced by "intelligent enough" computers and robots. If you believe that's not a problem for our current economic system, then you're simply an idiot.

Somehow when we transitioned from hunter-gatherers to agriculture we did fine. Then when we transitioned from subsistence farming to the Industrial Age we did fine. And now that we're transitioning from the Industrial Age to Information Age we'll be fine again. Ensuring you've evolved beyond previous stages in makind's development is your problem, not mine. You can join the still existent nomadic tribes in Africa or somewhere if you can't gain yourself any skills beyond something beyond what a 2nd grader in Bangaladesh can do.

Working out great for Venezuela.

Venuezuala is not as technologically capable as the first world. All the technological innovation came not from capitalism but from the application of the scientific method. All the greats weren't monetarily driven. Money is debt, the solution isn't to create more debt but to work with what we have

Way to be plain ignorant. The transition from HG to agriculture often involved new populations migrating in than actually the local populations adopting the practice of agriculture.

Not sure what train of thought you are using so maybe also true but otherwise money is nothing but another tool for balancing bartering.

Or you could just say technological advancement is gonna ruin us all and go start a self-sustaining community that relies on current tech and vows to never advance beyond that.

It'll be just like being Amish, except you can have cars and TV's and cell phones and video games.

but self driving cars? No No, we draw the line there.

A quick look at her Twitter feed and I get the impression she is mentally stunted. She also seems to be tired all the time.

I bet CNN is purposely picking the halfwits for thier articles so they can make a point.

You can pick a major and its in good shape, then graduate and its shit. Just ask a lawyer who wanted to be one as an undergrad freshman. Or anyone who graduated into 2008.

Na, they probably know people will pounce and call the people idiots, come back to discuss it on their news forums/comments section repeatedly to call them idiots again and argue with others, and link to the story on other forums to talk about how dumb the people are -- page views = $$$$$. Hey, works every time on this forum.

Edit: Think about how many times some of you went back to that webpage to pick out additional details to talk about. Some of you even tracked her twitter/LinkedIn down... How many page views/$$$ did you give the news company? The "idiot" just got free advertisement to hundreds of potential employers nationwide and might get an offer or two now. Also can't wait for the follow-up article in a few days/weeks to double-dip on the story.

Those systems still need to be designed, tested, and maintained. Automating these jobs are jobs in and of themselves... they just take skills these mouthbreathers aren't willing to put in the time to learn.

Those systems take far fewer man hours to design, test and maintain than the work they displace. If they didn't, they wouldn't be created in the first place.

The whole point of automation is higher output with human labor requirements. How do people not understand that eventually, there is an end game for human labor? It's a very simple concept.

You are reacting the same way to any mention of capitalism. Maybe you can tell us more about why you think "capitalism" is all holy?

Where did I use the word "holy", numnuts? What capitalism has done is given first world nations the highest standard of living this planet has ever seen. The end of humanity? Only an idiot sees it that way.

Do you know WHY the first world has more money to spend on scientific research? Because of capitalism, numnuts.

library sciences is not one of those majors.

I'd call it neutral. Its a rather niche subject and there is alot of growth in colleges. They still have huge libraries and tons of library staff. There is no reason they can't transition into helping people use online journals, give lectures to freshman about how to find sources, etc. I had a lecture like that by a librarian.

http://www.bls.gov/ooh/education-training-and-library/librarians.htm

I personally don't pay any attention to the projected job growth because the BLS has proven to be a lagging indicator and not a leading indicator. The BLS is still saying there is great job growth in pharmacy and there is an impending glut of pharmacists in my opinion. I'm sure in the late 80's they were saying there was poor job growth in pharmacy because they fired like half the pharmacists and replaced them with technicians and then by the late 90's due to the PharmD they were getting $20k sign on bonuses (Or $1million to move to Alaska).

Gotta know your shit!

Niche is good. She just wasn't very good at lining up a job.

Going into a field that people are avoiding can actually be very beneficial. That happened to engineers in the 70's. Calculators were taking all their jobs. Which in hindsight was clearly not the case eh? Problem is there are fields like law where despite being horrible people are still flocking to it. Its a crisis honestly.

Entertainment for one.

How many TV shows, movies, and sports do you think there is now compared to 1900?

Do you think people rode around on bicycles for fun after work in 1900? Do you think they sat down and played a video game? Do you think they went to cross fit?

There's and endless amount of shit to do the more we remove work no one wants to do. And there are endless ways to make money off of them.

I suspect the college industry has lowered the bar significantly when it comes to handing out degrees.

There are people that graduate today that probably would have flunked out decades ago.
