Luckily accidents never happen to responsible gun owners. Only the irresponsible ones.....
I doubt that is going to prevent these kinds of incidents.
It doesn't do that. It does the opposite. It adds to the idea that liberals are out to get them and take away their rights.
Punishments need to be viewed as just to act as a deterrent.
Oh yeah you can feel the love in that kit. Its the cat's meow. This has already been done
They should just mount a dildo on it for a grip that way it wouldn't be a pistol grip and everyone can be a dick with it.I really like the california approved grip on that by the way.
The problem is they are all responsible in their own eyes.
It being in the media will bring far more awareness than her giving a couple of talks at an NRA event where everyone is just thinking "Dumb bitch, that'd never happen to me." Throw her ass in jail for awhile, then you talk about her case at way more safety events than she could ever attend in person.
But a girl lost her life because of her extreme carelessness, would you also support no punishment if someone had ran her over while drinking?
I thought the point of my post was that she needed to be punished to act as a deterrent. I don't think even that many gun nutters would think that her being punished was "liberals trying to take away her gun."
I'll assume this isn't /sNothing could have been done to prevent this.

I that woman had to pass a competency test it would have been far less likely she stores a loaded gun in her purse with a 4 year old in the house.
Some people aren't smart enough to think around an issue for themselves and need someone else to help them think the matter through. Think of it as performing a risk assessment. Walking a person through different possibilities might possibly jog their memories and serve as an incentive to identify possible outcomes to a particular action before they actually commit to them.I'll assume this isn't /s

I think Americans need a written test every 10 years to keep handguns. And it needs to be a REAL test. The kind you will fail. The kind you gotta study for just to have a chance. Make people earn it. Make people fuckin appreciate it.
Also:
Since cars kill way more humans than guns kill humans, you need to take a written test every 5 years and a road test every 10 years. Again, it needs to be thorough. The kind you'll probably fail unless you make a real effort to study and practice. Yes, it will probably unfairly affect seniors, but better that than a bunch of dumbasses driving around long after they are seriously dangerous.
The problem is they are all responsible in their own eyes.
I like this intervention, although "shall not be abridged" is the language in the service amendment. Obviously other limits to gun ownership exist, so perhaps that isn't a barrier.

Is there really "so much crime?" Especially if you throw out drugs? If jail is a deterrent to crime how come we have so much crime?

How many people would be out robbing banks right now if there was no punishment? I sure as hell would drive a lot faster if there was no punishment. The idea that because not everyone is deterred by punishment, nobody is, is a liberal fantasy.

I never said punishment is not a deterrent. Just punishment is indeed a deterrent. Punishment also makes a whole lot more sense for acts of commission rather than omission (negligence). Also, the woman and her family clearly have already received a severe punishment -- just not a criminal one.
I doubt that is going to prevent these kinds of incidents.

Thief, good shoot.
Ummm, no. I'm very pro 2nd amendment and very pro responsible gun ownership. That is seriously NOT funny.
The responsible ones hide their guns in the cookie jar with the chips ahoy's rather than in plain sight on the coffee table with their monthly subscription to the 700 club right?"responsible gunowners"
