Chime away brother.

Error 404 the reference you were looking for is no longer available.

Most states have specific laws pertaining to the accessibility of firearms to children and require them to be secured to prevent their unauthorized use. I've had some heated conversations with my right wing parents who refuse to install trigger locks or place guns in a safe while allowing the grandkids to roam the house. There's nothing to prevent them from accessing them which could be disastrous.

Grandma was negligent in that regard and now a precious little girl has perished because of it. This contributory negligence should have severe consequences for her but somehow I can see the NRA coming to her aid to sweep this under the carpet or at least help with deflecting causation..

One may argue that she hasn't done enough to earn a presidential pardon.

What type of gun was it? Why was a bullet in the chamber or the safety off? I think charges are in order.

I'm curious if she'll voluntarily give up the gun now.

LOL, I'm guessing you don't know people that actively carry guns. The people at work behind me right now are talking about how one of their wives is pissed she can't carry a gun at work, as a nurse in a hospital.

I personally think she should be charged. Throwing people in prison is supposed to be a deterrent to other people as well as punishment. Having a loaded gun within easy reach of a child is extreme negligence and she deserves to be punished and held up as an example. The whole "she has suffered enough" is BS. If her being thrown in jail prevents even one other accident from happening, it was worth it.

Luckily accidents never happen to responsible gun owners. Only the irresponsible ones.....

I think punishment is appropriate but I don't think that throwing her in prison is a useful punishment for anybody involved, either her or society. We want to pretend that throwing people in jail and making the conditions miserable is a good solution to any misstep because otherwise the prison system as it exists in the US would represent a grave injustice. A useful punishment would be making her come to terms with what she did and help other people avoid making her mistake.

Personally I believe that she should be required to appear weekly before local gun safety and permitting classes to explain her circumstance and why gun safety is so important around children. Maybe even appear in local schools so children can learn about what happened as a PSA.

Fuck that, this is evolution weeding out the children of stupid people. Give the family a Darwin award and move on.

It doesn't do that. It does the opposite. It adds to the idea that liberals are out to get them and take away their rights.

Punishments need to be viewed as just to act as a deterrent.

Tell me again why we don't have competency and mental fitness tests for gun ownership?

If you can't properly maintain a gun should shouldn't own one.
If you are prone to settle disputes with violence you shouldn't own a gun

Death by suicide is almost double the deaths by homicide

Because incompetent people have an equal right to protect their families.

But she would have accidentally stabbed herself to death if granny were carrying a knife, anyway. It's all about the people!

Because its too inconvenient for gun buyers to have to endure. Besides we already know that only the smartest people in our society leave loaded guns laying around the house for little children to access.

Plus its a little known fact that Jesus carried a fully automatic assault rifle around to shoo the Gentiles away as he couldn't have them disrupting his services. Using your imagination you could replace the bullwhip in the sanctuary with an assault rifle altering the use case scenario. Anoint thine assault rifle with olive oil laying hands upon its receiver and praying for those who might seek to remove it from your possession. Sorry but the sarcasm is strong with me today.
