I know people will defend pit bulls with their last breaths, but if you've got a small kid, why would you bring in such an unpredictable breed into your home?

The father of the Duncan girl who was killed by a dog on Sunday has spoken publicly for the first time since it happened.

Jason Dodge says his daughter, 3-year-old Rylee Marie Dodge, was attacked by the dog at their home on Sunday. The girl was at the home with her grandmother when the attack happened. Dodge said he had left to go visit his brother when he received a panicked phone call from his mother about the attack. When he arrived back at the house he said his mother was trying to rescue the girl from the dog. His mother was also injured during the struggle.

Dodge said once he was able to get the dog away from the girl he loaded her into his truck and was planning to take her to the hospital when an ambulance arrived at the home. The EMS crew and doctors at the hospital attempted to save the girl but were unable to do so.

The dog was killed at the home by Duncan Police. The entire incident is still under investigation by the Duncan Police Department.

Dodge described Rylee as a fun-loving little girl who loved cats and dogs. The dog, Remington, is a pit bull which they had only owned for five days. Dodge said Remington had never done anything strange and had been playing with his son the day before the attack.

We will have more from Jason, as well as neighbors who said they remembered seeing Rylee playing in the yard and are heartbroken something like this happened in their neighborhood.

Few years back, a guy was walking a small pit. He had a logging chain for a lead. It probably weighed 3 times what the dog did. People are dumb.

Something like 20-30 people a year die from dog attacks in the US. Not all of those are from pit bulls. It is estimated that there are 3,000,000 - 5,000,000 pitbulls in the country. They may be statistically more dangerous, but they're still not very dangerous on the whole. I know what the numbers suggest compared to other dogs, but we also go by real life experiences, and every single pit I've ever known has been a giant baby. My lab pit mix is the best family dog I can imagine.

I'm not 100% anti-pitbull or whatever, but the problem is that it's obviously been bread to shit. If you want a pitbull for your young family, don't go rescue one. Same with any other powerful breed. Go to a respected breeder that has bred them for temperament, or adopt one from someone who has proof they got them from a breeder who knew what they were doing. I know it sounds lovely to "rescue" a dog, but would you "rescue" a homeless guy and leave him with your kids? Maybe if he was 20 lbs and couldn't do much damage...

It's also funny when people say it's not the dog it's just the owners. Well guess what, that includes 99% of people that have no idea what they are doing with their dogs despite thinking otherwise.

Breed is not unpredictable if bred and raised properly. That includes 1%, at best, of pit-bulls.

Sister has had pitbulls for quarter century.
Not the brightest bulbs in the bunch but not mean dogs.
Prior to getting fixed, her first one was aggressive when he got nervous. when I say aggressive is that he would start humping when he got nervous or worked up. Would never bite. Just red rocket everything in sight. After he got fixed, he just got fat and turned into the sweetest dog I've ever known.
Her next one would get aggressive with other dogs and animals when he was younger but never bit. Just played rough. After getting fixed, he takes out all his agressions on his squeaky toy.
Maybe it's because every pit I've ever known was raised by loving owners who treated them as companions and not "security" or "Ima breed dis and sell dah pups".
I have a different opinion on them.

the meanest dog ive ever had the displeasure of knowing was a chihuahua, bit pretty much everyone who ever met it, was a real dumb bastard. thankfully it was small and harmless.
