which just shows the double standard of western countries or at least america. (more so america)

if you are considered a adult at 18 you should be considered old enough to drink. but old people can feel entitled and that everyone younger tahn them even at 25 or 30 or even older is immature. maturaty has nothing to do with age.

With age comes experience/maturity for most. I'm sure there are exceptions for few.

Hope they do sue back.

The girl's being a spoiled "kid". The lawyer guy giving her a home and financial funding for the lawsuit is the enabler of this entire "game".

And damn. Read on Dailymail that the two parents clear $250k to $300k. Nice... Unfortunately, that's probably why the lawyer is helping.

Sounds just about right. The problem is when you have parents in that bracket, they do want to raise their kids in a way that they do not have to work for anything. Everything they want is given to them, handed on a silver platter.

Typically the parents are too busy to spend too much time with the kid, would not place any kind of discipline on the kid and "Buy" the child's love by giving them what they want and trying to be a friend instead of a parent.

You end up with a self entitled person who never had to work for anything in their life and expect the world to cater to them, big egos and narcissistic personality disorder etc..

I bet she chose the nastiest thug she can find to make waves.

In this case it seems to be the opposite. Her dad wanted her to "do a few chores around the house"

This was likely in contrast to her snotty friends. Which is why she pushed back. Most of her friends probably have maids and have never washed a dish or done a load of laundry in their life. From her point of view she was in a damn labor camp.

Is it me or do the parents seem so ready to flush their child down the drain? I guess they can afford to hire someone else to take care of them in their old age, or at least feel their own blood-kin will abuse them.

No, just you....Giving in to the daughters demands will not help her one bit....Remember it was the child who left, as she didnt want to live there by their rules, which is is entitled to do so now she is 18...

I have no idea where you got your last sentence from...Do you even have children?

'Hi mom just to let you know you're a real f**king winner aren't you you think you're so cool and you think you caught me throwing up in the bathroom after eating an egg frittatta, yeah sorry that you have problems now and you need to harp on mine because i didn't and i actually took a s*** which i really just wanna s*** all over your face right now because it looks like that anyway, anyway i f***ing hate you and um I've written you off so don't talk to me, don't do anything I'm blocking you from just about everything, have a nice life, bye mom'

Wow. Lots of accusations going back and forth. She's claiming dad was a creeper and mom was abusive.

Who knows what exactly is true, but I'm sure she didn't turn into a head case overnight or in a vacuum.

That's not true, the brain doesn't reach full maturity until the age of 25.

“The car rental companies got to it first, but neuroscientists have caught up and brain scans show clearly that the brain is not fully finished developing until about age 25.” -Neuroscientist Dr. Sandra Aamodt

Looking at her face, I could see ”entitled” written everywhere. I can imagine a conversation with her would consist of 30% ”like”, 27% ”um”, 43.6% ”deserve”, and 124% ”me”.

Judge had some harsh words for her, but she's lost round 1. How there's more rounds, I don't know. Seems really simple to me.

Rachel Canning's attorney, Tanya N. Helfand, said Sean and Elizabeth Canning are being "negligent and irresponsible."
"Normal healthy parents want to help their children. They want their children to go to college. They want to help them with their difficulties," Helfand said in court.
"You may not get along wonderfully every single day with your teenager. That doesn't mean that you abandon them and you say, 'Guess what, you're on your own.'"

WTF is wrong with people? This attorney sounds like an enabler as well. If she left the house when she was 18, the parents can do whatever they wish. They don't have to support her at all. I'm surprised they don't have the school's records yet about her truancy.

She's like one of those bad auditions on the old American Idol. The entire freaking world is mocking her, but the people close to her are like "Don't you listen to them, you're awesome."

The sad part is though even if she loses she probably will still end up costing her parents 10-30k or more + waste lot of their time. The lawsuit system really needs to be fixed. It should work more like a casino game. The person that loses has to pay the winner, no matter which way you go. So when you decide to sue someone for say, 5mil, then you are betting on that, and if you lose, you owe the person 5mil + their lawyer fees. Bet that would help fix these ridiculous lawsuits. People would only sue if they really think they have a solid case. On the other hand sometimes there are valid lawsuits that are lost simply because the attacker has more money, so maybe this would not work well in all situations.

Yep...and they should use her college fund to pay the legal expenses...

Nah, I don't agree...but I DO agree with the law in many states where the loser has to pay the legal fees of the winner...in MOST cases...but all too often, the loser is right...but just didn't have the $$ to hire better lawyers. They don't lose on the merits of the case...they lose because their liar lawyer sucked. Maybe the lawyer who brought the case should be held to pay...legal fees or the amount of the lawsuit.

I agree with this idea, might eliminate quite a few "ambulance chasers" as they will be more selective on the clients they choose and very likely, frivolous complainants may find it hard to get a good lawyer if they have a BS case.

If Vivid would pay Suleman a million for porn, I am certain that this girl will be able to get a similar deal...

Just saying...
