I had a similar thing happen to me though. Like the second time I ever had sex we did it without proper protection and I...uh...didn't exercise self-control at the penultimate stage. Hey, I was inexperienced. Anyway, she calls me a few weeks later with the "We have to talk tomorrow." That was a day and night of sheer terror. Turns out she was mad at me for telling her girlfriend what we did or something like that. I didn't really listen much beyond the point where I ascertained that I wasn't a parent or infected with something. I think that was the happiest I've ever been while getting my ass chewed out.

We're thinking this is the most likely scenario.

This is ridiculous. Why do people think it's herpes when it could just as easily be gonorrhea, chlamydia, chancroid, or syphilis too? If your friend is lucky, it'll be one of the previously mentioned and it will go away with a couple of days of antibiotics. If it's a baby.... well...

Oh and FYI/PSA, it is not uncommon for people to walk around with an STD and not know it because there aren't always overt symptoms. Don't be shy about being tested.

Herpes can lay dormant, HIV is often asymptomatic until it manifests to AIDS...
