Hello there fellow forum-dwellers!

So, my ladyfriend was headed home this evening to cook me up some dinner, and some no good 'out-of-state' heathen plowed into her car and took off. welp, being the little lady that she is, she chased his dumbass down and got his license plate number and then called the cops.

my question to you guys is, what is likely to happen since the dude is from out of state?

EDIT #1: i've forgotten my stupid photobucket pwd and have been locked out so i can't post a pic atm...i have failed everyone. poop.

EDIT #2: BAM! .. hrm, img tag wont work i guess...

her insurance is likely to pay for fixing her car, she has uninsured motorist coverage, right?

Assuming she filed a police report complete with the vehicle's license plate (and state), then that driver should be charged with hit and run. Her insurance company should be able to take care of everything for her.

sounds like she will be all set. Although if she had uninsured motorist, wouldn't it have been wiser for her not to chase the guy?

....waiting on pics

Hit and run is pretty serious, I'm sure the police and insurance co will track him down.

Does uninsured coverage pay for hit and run where you live? Where I am you need collision coverage for that(uninsured only covers medical). I'm guessing it may vary by state though.

Depends on how far out of state. If it is a neighboring state then they will likely pursue it. If it is far away it will have to be pretty serious for law enforcement to pursue it. It takes a crap ton of money to extradite someone and for a property crime. Your insurance company can take the owners information and go after their insurance company in civil court though.

cops are not likely to care/do anything if the person is out of state and didn't cause serious damage to the car or injury to your girlfriend.

different story with my wife when she was back in college, but her dad/brother are cops, so the guy that plowed into her had the pleasure of getting handcuffed in front of his house and neighbors.

?? Probably too early in the morning so I guess I'm missing the joke.

He was arrested at his house a few hours after crashing into my wife's car. Didn't help that he admitted to having been drinking and thought it was better for him to take off.
