Giving ECS K7S5A another chance.......

Hey all.

I returned my DOA ECS mobo back to AxionTech and I almost went for that new Shuttle KT266A mobo.

Here is the old thread about my problems with it.

I decided to give K7S5A another chance. I guess ECS pumps out quantity of motherboard...not quality motherboard.

I sure hope it wasn't the psu unit...I guess you will find out real fast...

I have put together 5 ecs mobos now all with 1.4ghz tbirds and have had no issues...I have used 350watt sparkle psu on all of them though...


Do not believe the myth that a 300 watt is fine for all 1.4tbirds and as long as you have just the vid card plugged in and not all the other peripherals you will be fine...That is total crap...If that was the case a 250 or even 200 could start it....THe 1.4 tbird has tremedous amount of draw as well as the ecs mobo is abit more then other boards...You need to look at 2 things on the psu to determin if the out put is enough...

ECS is quality board...I think most issues have been user related. Yours maybe just a bad board, something all manufacturers have.

Great link...very informative...I am going to test my mobo...

I originally had config error, but after following microsofts answer it fixed it...it appeared to be related to acpi function...winme had no issues...


I also verify written data all the time in my burns and have not noticed any issues with my divx movies or data cds of late...


I still think a majority of the issues have been related to users since the majority of the problems have been no post on bootup and have bee resolved with ps units and adjusting ram or agp cards...


I will continue to follow this as I will replace all the boards in a heartbeat if the issue turns out to be correct...could be a black eye for ECS.
