He doesn't want to ear em. I saw them in the bag at the other side of his bench the other day. I questioned him and he told me to leave him alone.

I want to snatch them back. Bunch of other people out there that could make good use of them.

He probably doesn't want to look like he's doing good with nice shoes because that will decrease his profits.

In other words, he has chosen to be homeless.. nothing more.

They can't get a stick with a nail and pick up cans? Begging = lazy

For the most part, yes.
I'm biblical about it; if you are too lazy to work, even if its very basic work scavenging, don't deserve to have food handed to you. This doesn't apply to people who are physically incapable of doing work, but how many of those are on the street? The mentally ill should be helped, however.

I feel exactly the same way, and I simply will not give beggars and homeless people money.

I used to give money to the homeless. The last time I gave a homeless money, I asked him what he was going to use it for. I was just hoping for an honest answer. He could have said booze, drugs, food, whatever and I would not have cared. He told me he was going use it to get a job. He said it with a smile that let me know he was lying. He thought that was the answer I was fishing for. I gave him the money, and left. So yeah, that bum pretty much ruined it for all the others I have encountered since then.

I had a discussion with my wife and her friend about this. She watched a suit take a homeless man at McDonald's order whatever he wanted. He got a tray full of food and sat down. The suit left and she kept an eye on homeless man. Not 5 min later, he got up and threw the entire tray of food in to the trash and left.

We related similar experiences that we'd had, and I'm of the belief (sad as it is) that I won't contribute to whatever shenanigans that got them where they are. I realize there are legitimately sick and mentally ill people who need help, and that's sad. We've come to a point where we're punishing the needy and rewarding the ungrateful.

If a guy on the street who looks like he's suffering asks for a smoke, I'll buy him a pack. I've offered food to people and they've refused. My favorite was a teenage runaway who asked for some change so she could buy a gun and make some REAL money. My wife and I chuckled and gave her $5 for entertainment value.

I had a homeless guy try to talk dirty to me as I walked passed. It cured me of my habit of giving them money. Homeless people are scarey.

I do give money to people who busk though.

I wonder how hard it is to get quick/small jobs when you're homeless. I've wondered if convenience stores, and places like that would give you a few dollars(or food) for picking up the parking lot, or if they just toe the official corporate policy.

With so many people out of work, donations to the homeless are falling.

I have already petitioned Washington for a homeless person bailout.

have a Vietnam Vet up the street who begs for money. He's missing half of a leg and has random Schizophrenic outbreaks. He can't work even if it wanted to, and will never be able to afford treatment to keep his Schizophrenia under control, that's assuming it's treatable. He drinks all the time, and I give him a few bucks a week when I see him. His life is a shit hole that will never get any better. Drinking will just lead to his death, but at least the time he's drunk his pain will be less. I see a lot of crazy homeless people who are semi functional but could never do anything productive. If drugs help them escape their situation they might as well go for it.

Give him tobacco. It helps with schizophrenia.

Never give money.
I was coming out of the grocery store and guy approached me asking for money for food. I had just visited the deli so I offered him the meal. It was shrink wrapped, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a honey bun for desert. I even offered to go to the machine and get him a soda or water. He wouldn't take it, kept insisting , didn't I have some change, or a few bills. I told him , I thought you were hungry ? He then asked if I could go to an atm with him. at that point I just told him to get lost.

I hope I never turn away anyone who is really hungry. I'll split what I am eating with you if you are, but don't try to take me for money so you can get drunk or high.

He found food, he found clothes, he found shelter.. He didn't ask for food, ask for clothes, or ask for shelter.

He finally was able to get a job at a Buffalo's cafe as a cook and slept behind the dumpster at night. My sister worked there with him. He ended up making enough money to get his first apartment.. and then a car...

And now he's happily married with 2 awesome kids and is the best brother-in-law one could ask for.

Homeless don't need to beg. They just need motivation and need to bust their ass to get what they want.

That's an impressive story. Not too many people could make it being homeless for 7 years starting at age 14. Must be one hell of a determined person.

From what i can tell those on the street who ask for money are invariably not using it in a way that I would deem responsible, and thus i never, ever give it.

Homeless people who throw away meals and walk to fancy cars after they're done begging?

link to some actual proof of this sort of behavior (not right wing commentary)

I cant speak about homeless, but in my town every thrift store & Salvation Army & Goodwill and all the other similar places are filled with Cadillac Escalades and Lincoln Navigators and the occasional Lexus or Infinity.
I stopped donating a long time ago. Now hand-me-downs go straight to friends and family that I know need the stuff.

As for the homeless, I donate regularily to a handful of CFC listed charities. Anyone whos not on the CFC I tell to fuck off.
