Giving up on Nvidia

I was following www.eVGA.com 's count down expecting there to be preorders on at least one type of fx.... but there was nothing! All they did was list the different models that would be available. What a marketing ploy. www.newegg.com says that they'll be carrying ultras on the 14th of this month but previously they stated that ultras from eVGA would be out on the 7 or 8th AANNND previous to that they said they'd be carrying PNY fxs' which they've taken off their site since. I'm about to take another chance with ati and this time go for there 9700pro (instead of a 9500pro). I'll be running a A7N8X Deluxe with a 2500+ barton, dual Corsair 333Mhz TwinLL 2-2-2-5 DDR and a prometeia rig with the whole lian-li case setup.

If I can vent one thing......nvidia fx ultra benchmarks look like crap when put side by side with ati's. Not that they're horrid...but a product this late to the party and still only able to go neck to neck with what was out 6 months ago is BOGUS! I will say~ Ati....you have driver issues..... but nvidia....you're having worse issues (not getting your product out FAST enough for the consumer #1, and #2 who the hell is going to order a $430 dollar Fx Ultra from new egg when the 9700pro and it are neck to neck in benchmark reports AND the 9700pro is at least 80-130 dollars less! The only person who would spend 80 - 130 dollars more on a card would be one who is paranoid about ati drivers (like myself). But enough's enough...if i'm going to spend 80-130 more on something...then be it a new motherboard that an ati card is very compatible with according to all the benchmarks....but I'll be if I give nvidia my money at this moment. Nvidia needs to officially post a release date on it's site for one.... this whole not setting an official date is doing the following: 1: Exciting some of us for a fairly good period of time 2: Having some of us question what nvidias doing 3: Getting me and probably others POed at nvidias untimely and underpar product considering the time they've had to develope it before releasing it. Anyways, I haven't seen an official release date on nvidia's site but....if someone finds a release date on nvidias site, correct me and post the link with your reply. Stop wasting loyal customers time nvidia....and again, who is going to fork over 80-130 dollars more for your card over a 9700pro unless he or she is a die hard fan of yours or a VERY paranoid driver person. Shoot....if people are using a 9700pro in their rigs it's gotta work for me at one point. Nuff said. Before I go, if anyone has the same motherboard as mentioned above running a 9700 pro.. PLLLEEEAAASE message me and tell me about the rest of your rig. I'm getting ready to switch camps. Thanks all.

I don't think ur priv msg is enabled. But lol yea I got ur mobo and I have both Radeon 9500 pro and 9700 pro. I've only tried the 9500 pro...so far so good...msg me later and remind me to check how the 9700 goes.

Don't expect FSB speeds in the 200MHz range with that mobo and set-up. If you're running stock 166MHz FSB you shouldn't have any probs though. I still have some driver pitfalls, but no show-stoppers. ATi driver compatibility and performance (in games) has increased tremendously since I briefly tried an 8500 (PoS when released), but their installation package and uninstall still leaves MUCH to be desired. The only problems I have had are with compatibility with 3rd party multimedia software/hardware. I've fixed most of them, but its been a pretty painful road. Driver updates for any of my various multimedia components and programs make me think twice before I install them. You can see my rig specs in the link in my sig.

Its only at 2380MHz now if it makes you feel any better. I had to sacrifice the speed b/c I turned the rpms on the fan down by around 40%. Also, are you running a T-bred B or an A??? Most B's are safely in the 2200-2300 range I believe.

Well I got TBred B from Newegg. The old one would hit 2250 and stuff....but this one if i turn it up to 2200 range fails prime with the quickness. ugh...

Why not just pick up a cheap TI4200, its about 200 dollars less than the 9700. My 4200 runs BF 1942, Morrowind, UT2003 at maximum detail using 4X FSAA and 8X filtering with no lag whatsover. and i am running a cheapo 1700 AMD processor. Directx 9 games arnt going to be out for a long long time so direct x 9 support is not a big deal. I do however must admit that from what i have seen of ATI's cards their image quality looks better but to me is not worth the extra cash.

The 9500 pro is a much better buy than the 4200 in my opinion. Also note that the 9600 will be out in the near future.

My PNY FX 5800 Ultra arrived yesterday so I assume they are shipping if you pre-ordered one.

Let us know how it goes with the FX, it will be interesting to hear reports from someone who allway's seems to have the latest and (well sort of) greatest.

Heh, I represent that remark. I do have 9800Pros coming but wanted to try this Nvidia system as my house needs a good spring cleaning. I have one working now and will have the other up and running shortly I hope. I still have to get clearance from the power company and air traffic control.
