Yep, 'the morning after syndrome' has officially started in the original post... cries of law suits and crap like that... this reminds me of the McDonald's coffee incident.. you had a pretty good idea the coffee was hot but are shocked when you spill it and it burns you. Some people, like some of you guys, took the chance and knew it was probably not going to happen and just blew it off, that's cool. However, some people, like in the original thread, knew they were taking a chance, knew it wasn't going to happen, and had probably already concocted a strategy to try and 'burn down the village' before hand. It's things like that gives 'deal forums' bad names. I can understand if they try to charge your credit card for a different amount, just contest the charges, but try and destroy a company for making a mistake is a huge mistake. After all, since these are all ran by humans we will soon run out of companies to destroy. I'm actually shocked that the moderators and owner of these forums allow this type of behavior. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but just wanted to express my opinon, and that's all it is my opinion.

I'm rather suprised they didn't make an offer to the people ordering. Something like they made a mistake and can't offer it at that price. But will give the person ordering say $20 off of $549 if they wanted to buy it anyhow. This way they are at least making a halfway attempt to atone for their mistake and still turning a small profit.
Oh and as for the arguments that they're paying $300 for this card is highly unlikely. Most likely their cost of goods sold (cost of item + shipping from manufacturer) is in the neighborhood of $450 - $500, then out of the $50 - $100 they make they have to take out their operating expenses which is anywhere from $30 to $80 of that card. So selling it at even $20 off may only mean break even. Most likely they are making $40 or $50 a card but it could be $20...Profit margins in the computer hardware business are razor thin.

As far as their "cost" for the item. They are not paying anywhere near $500 for it. You must be joking.

i doubt that they're making $40+ off each card. It's impossible for an internet store to survive w/ pricing that high because no distributor is able to offer them the cards at such a price. i know the last time i checked lots of the internet hardware stores were selling at close to their cost and making only a few bucks off of shipping w/ charges of $10+.

Why would any retailer sell a $540 that it only would make $10 on? Anyone who believes that is delusional. All it takes is a search on Pricewatch and you will find the Leadtek Geforce2 Ultra 64mb DDR for $379, which is probably a better card. Are you telling me that these retailers are taking huge losses? Get serious. Margins may be slim on some products, but not on the newest, fastest, hottest thing on the market.
