I wanted to make a case using glass, and I'd need to cut out holes for the drives and the back, plus I need some way to support all of the drives and the power supply. Any suggestions? (I don't want to use plexi or any plastic)

Only way to cut glass is with grinding stone or diamond cutters..You are talking about a very expensive proposition there.. Maybe there is a glass cutting outfit in your area that can do the work you want if you diagram out what it is you want done to the glass?

I'd have to suggest that you make DAMNED sure that glass is tempered. Otherwise, you run a very serious risk of having it crack and/or shatter during use (potentially killing the system inside of it and hurting you). By the time you're done with that project, you'll have one very expensive case (unless you get lucky). Also remember, [normal] glass doesn't handle thermal stress all that well.

Got bucks?

Not to deter you, but here's some facts.

1/4" tempered glass is very expensive, and that's the absolute minimum thickness you would need to use. I bought two pieces of it (both 24 x 30, IIRC) from a MAJOR glass company in a MAJOR city for a snake cage I built and it was $220 for the two..

You would need to PRECISELY drill multiple sized holes, in multiple locations to mount drives, etc. This requires machinery you don't have and probably cannot afford to rent.

The first 27.5 times you try to put it together, you're gonna break something....

I'd say a minimum of $1,000 for materials and labor to build your prototype.

Hey, maybe you've got $10K burning a hole in your pocket! More power to 'ya!!!

Good luck!
