are blue light blocking glasses worth it or effective? my eyes have been hurting a bit because of laptop use. (I have to work on laptop alot because of my job)

For a free alternative on windows operating systems:
If it's running windows 10, enable night light to output less blue light. Adjust time range and effect to desired level.

On windows vista through 8, I imagine changing the color temperature by using windows' color calibration (may require admin rights) through decreasing the blue levels would also work.

On newer macs enable night shift

Never used them myself, but there are yellow-tint "gaming" antiglare glasses, two people who i chatted with say they make it easier on the eyes.
You should invest some time however in calibrating your monitor, both hardware and OS.

I've wondered if they were effective too. They asked me if I wanted some anti-blue coating on my current pair of glasses and I opted for it but I guess I can't tell a difference, though I didn't have eye issues before either.

It does allow the lens manufacturers to market and sell something to people they don't actually need. It's good for them.

thanks guyz. I am not gonna buy it instead i am gonna do what fralexandr suggested. Hopefully my eye issue will get resolved with it

Ive had that coationg on every pair Ive bought in the last 3 years. Highky recommend. Aside from the medical benefits (reducing blue light) my eyes are far less fatigued at the end of a work day.

Blue-light filtering spectacle lenses can partially filter high-energy short-wavelength light without substantially degrading visual performance and sleep quality. These lenses may serve as a supplementary option for protecting the retina from potential blue-light hazard.

The slight yellow tint in my lenses is supposed to block UV light thus reducing the risk for cataracts or at least delaying them.

I second trying Windows nightlight, or even f.lux (I use this at home). At work I have my monitors' brightness turned down to 0 and it helps a lot for reducing eye strain.
