Not really seeing the big differences between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany in any practical sense.

Purging of political enemies? Check.
Collectivized, centrally-planned economies? Sure.
Command and control police state? That too.
A frenzied cult of personality? Yes.
Ambitions to expand territories through invasion or threat thereof? Indeed.
Mass exterminations/deportations of intellectuals and other threats to the state? Da and Ja!

Left and right are bullshit paradigms foisted upon us from the time we're kids. A more realistic view is anarchy on one end of the spectrum and totalitarianism on the other, at least it would seem so based on the fact that left(socialism) and right(fascism) are really the same product with different packaging.

But ultimately I think it reeks of hackery to compare the left to the Nazis. If you want to go for a low blow, compare them to communists.

I guess it's interesting enough. In the interest of full disclosure xJohnx pointed me to this forum not about the Glenn Beck topic but rather this whole debate on German.

On the subject of comparisons and labels and whatnot, I'm not too terribly concerned with what you call something or a title you put on it. More important--to me at least--is the reality, which in the cases of far-left and far-right, put into practice, are pretty much the same thing. It's not particularly outlandish to say that certain parts of the Obama administration's policies bear resemblance to Nazi policies. I certainly wouldn't call it hackery if someone compared many Bush administration policies to Stalin's or the Soviet Union's. Wire-tapping without warrants is definitely one thing that comes to mind.
