Can you make free PC <-> Phone calls? The advertising on that page would lead me to believe so, but most places charge for this service. (PC <-> PC is free typically though.)

You get a "real" phone number so GloPhone calls connect to regular phones and cell phones.

It?s amazing; with GloPhone you can call regular land-line and cell phones. You get a regular US phone number (choose the area code you want others to call) and people can call your GloPhone from either their GloPhone or from any of their other phones at home or work. When talking to people who do not have a GloPhone it does cost pennies per minute to access the public phone networks. However, GloPhone has included some free minutes in your introduction plan so you can call anyphone in the US or Canada. Plus, there are plans available if you want more, and they cost much less than most cell phone minutes.

Just an FYI - These two things are the only flags that stood out in the User Agreement to me:

" 3. Permission to Utilize.
In order to receive the benefits provided by the Voiceglo Software, you hereby grant permission for the Voiceglo Software to utilize the processor and bandwidth of your computer for the limited purpose of facilitating the communication between other Voiceglo Software users.

You understand that the Voiceglo Software will protect the privacy and integrity of your computer resources and communication and ensure the unobtrusive utilization of your computer resources to the greatest extent possible. "

The AUP makes it sound as if they will use your Computer's Processor and Resources to facilitate other GloPhone calls? Does anyone else read it the same way:? Seems like if it was only your phone calls it would have said (Begin Quote from AUP) ". . .limited purpose of facilitating the communication between "(Enduser)" and other Voiceglo Software users."

"2c) The Voiceglo Software and Services may be incorporated into, and may incorporate, technology, software and services owned and controlled by third parties. Use of such third party software or services is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable third party license agreements, and you agree to look solely to the applicable third party and not to Voiceglo to enforce any of your rights. . . . "

(Sounds like permission to put other software on your system?)

Otherwise. . .
Sounds like a pretty good deal: . . . I'll wait and see what others who have signed up report before I'll bite:

I took the plunge and installed. It does call regular landline phones, but no mention of how many free minutes you are given. Maybe I should check the sbc disposable email account I used to sign up.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just found out. Quoted directly from their "My Account" page:

"Thank you for being a valued glophone user! As such, we are giving you 30 FREE MINUTES of incoming or outbound calling to any regular or cell phone in the continental United States. As always, glophone to glophone calls are FREE!"

Besides I don't see how the OP can compare this to dialpad, as they gave out free unlimited outgoing PC->Phone. This service only allows 30 minutes free. And as such I highly doubt we'll see anything like dialpad and other similar companies that went out of business or discontinued such free services after the dot com bust. Oh well.
