VIENNA, Austria - Europe's Alpine region is going through its warmest period in 1,300 years, the head of an extensive climate study said Tuesday.

Reinhard Boehm, a climatologist at Austria's Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics said.

Boehm based his comments on the results of a project conducted by a group of European institutes between March 2003 and August 2006.

Humans first had an impact on the global climate in the 1950s, Boehm said, noting that at first, the release of aerosols into the atmosphere cooled the climate. Since the 1980s, however, greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane have warmed it up, he said.

"It will undoubtedly get warmer in the future," Boehm said.

Wait a minute? Doesnt that mean that sometime prior to 1300 years ago it was warmer? Or is 1300 years a number they pull out of their a$$e$?

Uh oh, you just asked the question that no lib wants to answer.

Well, d@mn. There's the solution to global warming! We just need to go back to aerosol cans etc and we can fix the problem.

12-25-2006 Inhabited Island Vanishes Forever Underwater

"For the first time the rising ocean levels have washed away an inhabited island. Lohachara island was at one point home to some 10,000 people. It, along with several other spits of land near the Indian mainland, is now permanently underwater. From the article: ' As the seas continue to swell, they will swallow whole island nations, from the Maldives to the Marshall Islands, inundate vast areas of countries from Bangladesh to Egypt, and submerge parts of scores of coastal cities. Eight years ago ... the first uninhabited islands - in the Pacific atoll nation of Kiribati - vanished beneath the waves. The people of low-lying islands in Vanuatu, also in the Pacific, have been evacuated as a precaution, but the land still juts above the sea. The disappearance of Lohachara, once home to 10,000 people, is unprecedented.'"

The specific temperature of the Alps is irrelevant because we are talking about global warming. GoPackGo's question is also irrelevant for the very same reason.

Ok... so I am at Target in the produce section and a little girl 3 or 4 sees a pineapple and yells out "Look it's sponge bob's house!" for all to hear.

Have to love kids for stuff like that

Dave's post was about the Alps, did you read his post? CPA makes a valid point, was it global warming 1300 years ago when it was warmer than it is now in the Alps?

I'm still confused as to your point. The person that made the specific temperature of the Alps is Dave, CPA and gopackgo are just responding to his post. Are you saying that Daves post is irrevelant because we are talking about global warming? Or are you just trying to avoid the question?

Yes, if sea levels were to rise in one area they would rise everywhere, so its silly to say some island disapeared in India and yet the barrier island off of the US are still magically there even though many of them are only a few feet above sea level.

They used to be a lot more than a "few feet above sea level".

A lot of the barrier islands in the gulf are already gone.

So you take hurricanes eroding islands, something which has been going on forever, and attribute it to global warming?

Who's paying you off, shill?

You don't live anywhere near the coast do you?

If you did you would know that the water has come up quite a bit.

Low tide is now where high tide marks used to be.

High tide a lot is under water that never was before.

Enjoy

Oh? Guess I didnt notice that, the last time I was in Ft Myers and Sanibel Island.

Edit: btw did you note this from your boat in Oklahoma?

If you lived in the Ft Meyers/Sanibel area you would notice exactly what I noted before.

I lived on Long Island, South Florida and Gulf cost.

I am now on a man made lake where level is controlled by rainfall and hydro power.

Example of greenhouse effect. The planet Venus. 900 degree surface temp. Miles thick cloud layer. High CO2 in the atmosphere. Now it is a theory that an increase on CO2 increased the temperature enough to evaporate the surface water and start a run-a-way greenhouse effect. Or an example of what Earth would have developed into, without certain forms of bacteria developing and terraforming the planet.
