You all be bloody dead before anything goes to shit so why should we care or worry? Nothing lasts forever. Life is too short to worry what might happen in 200 years times.

Eh my only problem with this (and it is extremely ignorant I know) is that if the earth was once covered in a sheet of ice during the last several ice ages and man was not even around how did we have these cycles where it was so hot afterwards with forests that make the Amazon look pitiful.

I dunno, I tend to not get in on these discussions because to me its stupid.
It helps to understand that global warming climate change is akin to religion to some. Fear is a very powerful emotion in the lives of humans. The fear that we've caused something, the fear that we could have done something, the fear that we're doing nothing or could have done more can cause reactions that can be extreme.

Here's what I can tell you for certain.

Nobody has yet to declare what it's going to take to reverse climate change. Climate change can be rising temperatures of falling temperatures. Nobody has laid out a path.

There are many who feel we must do "something". They don't know what that is, but they do know they will feel better if we do it. Whatever that may be. They're pretty sure money is going to be involved and as long as they don't have to pay, it's all good. (Think evil rich.)

Our President is going to address it. He's said so. We are going to pay and we are going to pay dearly. There still will be no clear path. But money will be taken from some folks to line the pockets of rich folks (making them richer in the process) and no quantifying will be done of the results. We will be told "it's working".

Anyone who ever thought that "global warming" and "climate change" policies were anything other than a power grab is an idiot.

We have no more control over our climate than a flea has over the direction of travel of the dog it's riding on.

Sure, it's probably a good idea to clean up some of our industry and research "alternative energy"...but not because it's impacting the climate on a global scale to any measurable degree. More because it's just plain a good idea for the long term. Oil will run out sometime in the next 200 years, and oil shale will run out some time after that. Coal and natural gas will run out, too. The more prepared we can be for those eventualities, the better. Efficiency is great and progress is great.

But it shouldn't be because of some mythical "the world is going to die and we killed it" reasoning. And it certainly shouldn't be on the dime of the tax payer.
Please run for office. I am totally serious. Attain a powerful position and put your common sense reasoning to work for the good of the nation.

In a word, it's likely impossible. Reducing human CO2 emissions would do nothing because current global warming is based on current CO2 levels. To stop global warming, you would actually need to have negative CO2 emissions so we could bring atmospheric CO2 levels to where they were maybe 100 years ago. We've been making a lot of CO2 in the past 100 years. Basically every person in America would need to have some kind of machine that has as much negative CO2 effects as their car, electricity, and natural gas consumption combined and multiplied by 2. Multiplied by 1 would bring you to 0 emissions, multiplied by 2 would bring you to negative emissions. And you would need to run that project continuously for the next 100 years.

You're not going to stop global warming. The best thing you can do is look at the trends, listen to the scientists, and move to a place you think will be habitable. I'm way inland and high up, so I don't need to move. Guys in coastal cities might be forced to move at some point if sea levels rise enough to cover them.

Our President is going to address it. He's said so. We are going to pay and we are going to pay dearly. There still will be no clear path. But money will be taken from some folks to line the pockets of rich folks (making them richer in the process) and no quantifying will be done of the results. We will be told "it's working".
Every great problem comes with great opportunity. Suppose the population of Florida moves to a place like Idaho. That's a whole lot of infrastructure that needs to be built for that kind of population boom. If you can get in on the ground floor, you can make a lot of money. Maybe start your own construction company

You should be in good shape. It's taken 20,000 years for sea level to rise 400 feet. At this rate it'll take another 110,000 years before sea water starts flooding your basement. But that's probably worse case scenario...because if you extrapolate the last 8,000 years you're probably talking millions of years...

Wow, conservatards really are 'tards.

Shit happens.

God gave us the earth. We have dominion over the plants, the animals, the trees. God said, 'Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it. It's yours

Plastic, heavy metals, radioactive material, REAL problems need dealing with.

We'll keep 'raping' it if we're screwing with essential trace gases and ignoring what matters.

If I respected you enough to even consider you a person I'd be offended.

I don't make the truth, I only point it out. Being offended at the reality that conservatards are 'tards has nothing to do with respect for me. If it's something that you can't figure out for yourself, though, you should take a long and hard look at yourself.

... unless another ice age comes.

The rise you're talking about has been without the rate of warming we have triggered...

It's like telling someone whose house is burning down "Don't worry, your house has been here for 50 years, it won't burn down today".

You do realize this thread and your post are setting up an angry reponse from Moonbeam and others, who are furious that Obama hasn't outlawed SUVs via Executive Order. For the kids' sake, of course.

Ah, for Christ sakes would you look the f at this shit! We get some astoundingly good news and some donkey has to try to spoil the elation by turning it into a brain dead screed about me. Why don't you go somewhere and choke on your self hate. I hope you die if your Mother isn't swept away by a melting glacier. Try to understand that the liberal mind just looks at the data and what the scientists say is their consensus with reason and logic and goes along with whatever that consensus is. We don't attach our own opinions like butt patches to our assholes like conservatives do and whine and cry when somebody changes the game. If global warming isn't a disaster about to happen, it's good news you stupid moron. Only a gosh darn sponge would find here a reason to gloat. Try to go drain the puss.

Suppose it turns out the current climate variations we are seeing are nothing more than the final spasms before the next great ice age comes? After all, if you look at the long-term historical data we are about due. So then the entire population of the north moves towards the south.

There would be two great opportunities. One when people made the bad decision to move to Idaho, and another when they move back again to avoid the advancing walls of ice. Double profit.

I think this is a great place to start deconstructing the AGW fear-mongering. Seems pretty exhaustive, referenced, etc.
Give it a long read, it could help your case which ever side you're on.

The liberal mind doesn't take one look at data

They take a look at people that they are convinced is truth before questioning it as truth. Media faces. Media propaganda.

Not appreciating your thread crapping. Please participate in the discussion or gtfo.

I don't always agree with DSF, but this is an instance where I do. If you can't bring in constructive, logical, debate argument to this thread then why be in there? All your posts thus far have been pure trollish, high flame baiting, and looking to incite ire in others. It's disgusting and disgraceful. Go back to 4chan.

I am so thrilled at the genius of DocSavageFan. As he finds just one writer of semi dubious scientific credibility Who states global warming is over blown. As then DSF, goes ga ga, and assumes just that one writer is correct.`
Not sure if this really matters to you or not but the Research Council of Norway is a prestigious government science agency.

A government scientific agency that is left leaning and from a left leaning country that supports climate change control or has in the past. Just to add that in.

We are still coming out of the last Ice Age. At some point all of the ice will be gone and the poles will be tropical.

Wouldn't reversing climate change be itself climate change?
