I had recently built a new rig of Asus A7V333 with AMD 2000+, and Kingmax PC2700 256Mb DDR.

I use the Globalwin CAK-II 38 as a cooling but it appear that it don't seem to do the job well. As it is in 50c/122f as I type this basic messages.

What have I done wrong?

Any ideas?

That temp isn't that bad and is still in AMD's realm. But a lot of things come into play here. Consider your room and system temp, both have an effect on the cpu temp. If you have a hot room the cpu temp will be higher than normal, same goes if the system temp is high. Do you have adequate case cooling? Adequate usually is at least one fan in the lower front bringing air in and one on the rear top as the exhaust. Try running with the side panel off and see if this helps. If it does then you need better system cooling.

Also did you apply a thin-even layer of thermal compound? Too much or too little also effect cpu temp. The cak II 38 is a good little heatsink. The fan is a bit too loud though.

Also don't forget that your MB actually reads the on-die thermal diode. So your 50 is a true 50. Your previous rig probably read the temp from a diode below the proc so it didn't give true temps.

Actually, the A7V333 does read the on-core diode but only the C.O.P. circuit is privvy to that reading. The reading you see in the BIOS and in Asus probe is coming from a motherboard-mounted thermistor, as I found by doing some creative experimentation involving holding an ice pack to the backside of the motherboard while it was running :Q

The other thing to know about the A7V333 is that although you're seeing a socket-thermistor reading, it is calibrated quite a bit higher than most other brands of boards. I used the same precise CPU, heatsink and fan on the A7V333 as I had been running on my K7S5A and the temperatures jumped about 10C. It's just calibration differences.

I have a 1700+ with an Alpha PAL8045 and a Panaflo L1A fan (~24cfm) and am getting temperatures in the 55C-57C area with a well-ventilated case, so your 50C reading is actually outstandingly good, especially considering you've got a faster CPU.

Thanks for your inputs.

I will leave it and see how it settle as it only three weeks old! The room is warm as well so it might have effect on the unit, so am looking forward to the autumn!

Thanks once again....
