I would prefer something I can just throw in a protein shake and not worry about it. I was told to take these as well as protein to make sure I can get some gains. Any ideas?

Who told you? Some bro at GNC?

It's not needed. Your shakes already have a solid amount of BCAAs and Glutamine. Even if it did make a difference, it's probably almost a negligible amount unless you are competing in whatever activity you are doing at a very high level.

I've made a ton of gains in the gym over the past 7 weeks, and I haven't even touched a protein shake. For me, they only exist as a meal replacement when I can't cook, which is usually rare.

All I take is creatine monohydrate and have been doing just fine.

A body builder friend. Ive been going for 4 weeks. I am not sure if I have made any gains, I was a little bit overweight 202 and 5'10'' and now I am down to 192. But I am not sure if I am making any muscle gains

I've lifted with and with out additional protein supplement. I haven't noticed any difference. Do you really think an extra 10g of glutamine is going to make you any stronger when you (should) already consume 200g+ protein a day as it is?

Are you tracking your lifts? Are you tracking your weight? Are you tracking your food? Are you tracking your physical body measurements (waist, chest, arms, legs)?

If the answer is no to any of that, then you can't be sure you aren't making gains somewhere.

Try some of those out. Glutamine isn't worth it IMO.

BCAAs are worth it PRE workout or DURING your workout IMO. I don't know if it was placebo effect but I got less sore and had more endurance when using BCAAs. They are cheap. You can get a kilo for $50 and you need maybe 5-10g a day.

Give it a try and see if you like it.

OH, and sorry they aren't necessarily going to give you "gains" in themselves. But for me they helped recovery and endurance to allow me a few more reps and work out a little more often.

The only supplements I'd really recommend (and I've gone through a ton) are

level 1
multivitamin
protein
creatine
fish oil

level 2
BCAA
pre workout drink (if you like stimulants / pump enchancers)

I really can't think of anything else that is that importantant unless you just like to play around in the supplement market and have some money to spend. It can be fun to try different stuff.

I use to feel physically sick when training hard without my carb drink or bcaa drink when I was working in London. Having lunch at 1pm and then training at 730pm is TERRIBLE. I would ideally liked to have eaten half a meal of sorts around 6pm but that wasn't possible most of the time. I'd double up on lunch and have something around 6pm. The carb drink and BCAA was worth not feeling sick when training in the gym.

I take 30 grams of glutamine on my training days. Personally I feel like the recovery type supps do a lot for me. My big three are glutamine, GABA, and zma. I can definitely tell if I forget to take my zma and gaba before bed.

As far as bcaa drinks... Only if you can't get your meal in before training or are doing fasted cardio. I take them at times, mainly just for the taste. Machine fuel grape is pretty darn tasty.

I had really good results (I felt better and restored faster) on Glutamine and ZMA too.

I also feel better on vitamins, people say they aren't needed...but even on a solid diet I feel better supplementing them and my workouts are better and I can be more intense longer.

I stopped taking ZMA and haven't felt any different. BUT I sleep VERY VERY well. I sleep very fast and very deep and now a days I can clock in an easy 8-10hrs.

I sleep so deep I can sleep through a plane landing and wake up at the terminal.

OP what I always tell people is try them out for a month or two. If you feel that it gives you a positive effect and it's not breaking the bank balance, then keep on taking it. If you don't feel it gives you a positive effect then stop taking them.

Normally don't supplement glutamine or BCAA when taking ON's or Muscle Milk protein shakes any quality products incuded. I do agree, as said before, I benefit greatly from vitamins, but I'll be 41 this month. So each to there own. I take:

Multivitamin

Omega complex

Vitamin C

ZMA at bedtime. I walk all day and can feel calf craps when I miss a dose.

DHEA-Had low T at 35 and did not like the sides to the meds they gave me.

DIM-Supposed to help metabolize estrogen to prevent excess.

Acytle L-carnitine- this I take for heart health. I found out about its benefits when my grandfather died from CJ heart failure, myapathy in '09.

Now just to me. I have always had great results with arganine and citrulline (spelling). Small energy, but helped bring my blood pressure way down. Plus the big veins look good too, lol. Get them in bulk from Amazon.

Now I know its alot, but for 5'10, I have weighed as much as 250lbs and as low as 173, currently 178. These are just what I have found to work for me when diet and exercise were in check and I couldn't get over those humps in lifting or diet.

Sorry for any spelling errors.

I love glutamine and arginine but everyone has different genetics so some supplements may act differently for specific individuals.
