So I took a class on racing a go kart at the local track. Holy crap driving those things tire you out. No power steering and the lateral g forces those things can achieve is insane. Definitely a good work out

I also should have done this a long time ago, they were teaching a lot of things that apply to a real car as well

many of the world's best drivers started on karts. schumacher, arguably THE greatest driver ever was raised on his family's kart track. senna, the other greatest driver ever said "it was pure racing."

It can be fun, but being covered with rubber afterwards is a little annoying.

I wish that too.

Honestly though, I'm fortunate to have 2 tracks near by. It's not the best but it's cheaper than building my own.

For a dirt track, you can get by with a skid steer, pavement roller and 1/4 - 1/2 acre lot. Used tires and framing optional.

If you want a bridge over a figure eight, that will be a little more engineering

The day I can carve out a dirt track and some single track trails is the day I will want to start retiring.

I absolutely love karting. It will teach about driving on the edge in the safest possible way.

I was very lucky to do it as a kid.

I just bought a Kandi KD-150GKA2 150CC Go Kart and i'm really happy! The next step is to build a track around my house, whereas i have enough place.
And if you ask me, why i bought the go kart firstly? It was because i bought it on sale, and teh priceracing go cartswas really affordable.

I started racing cars from a very early age and continued for over 10 years. I had always thought that karting was for kids who want to experience driving before they had a license. Boy, was I wrong. The first time I went karting I was amazed. The karts went very fast and even though I thought I would be a pro at this, I was not. The way some of these kart drivers leaned so heavily into a curve and manouvered the gas/brake pedals was truly amazing. It took me hours of practice just to keep up with them.

Except that Schummy admits that Senna was the greatest driver ever...

That's false modesty, I assume.

I'd eat my shorts if Schumacher didn't truly believe he'd beat anyone else in a race where everyone was at their prime.

He actually broke down and cried during a post race interview many years after Senna's death when asked about beating a record held by Senna. He may have some false modesty but I think most drivers who knew Senna and even many who never met him hold him in the highest regard.

The cars he raced in and the era were some of the most powerful ever seen in F1. This was a time when there were no pit lane speed limits, safety wasn't exactly at the forefront. You make a mistake today and you pay for it with a wrecked car, when Senna raced you might pay for a mistake with your life.

I'm sure the fact that he was following Senna, and saw the crash that killed Senna, is a bit of a pressure point with him.

I'm lucky to have Buckmore Park near me. Fantastic karting track where Hamilton and Button used to race. Unfortuntaly I've not been there as much as I'd like (not to mention weather out here has been pretty crappy).

In Chicago, good outdoor tracks were far and few between. Chicago Indoor Racing was as good as an indoor track as you could get. There was one past Joliet...Norway Karting in Sheridan, IL. No longer there I think, but that was pretty raw...nothing fancy about those carts.

when i was younger I raced go-carts. they were slow but fun. Some of the high end ones are extremely fast.

IF i had the extra money i would get back into it.
