Please do not take this as a thread crap but STEAM is crap IMO. I do play this and have over 8 days played on steam and finally just had enough of Steam. They have had problems from in the begining but now with all the hacks (LOTS) and bad connections. I have to say goodbye Steam. I will try COD when it comes out but have seen them also having problems with the beta, but hope they also have that worked out. Just wanted to give the lookers some info to make a wiser decision on how to spend their money.

No need to turn this into a Steam thread...but Steam is awesome. Rarely do I have any problems at all and their sales on older games are fantastic.

Yeah...that has absolutely nothing to do with Steam. That's Infinity Ward's doing.

Just saying I do and several of my group that plays together and are having all sort of issues staying connected and voice, and this has everything to do with Steam as you can only play through Steam. If it is in fact Steam causing the issues then it's still Infinity Ward's fault for making Steam a requirement to play. Maybe it's your hardware and/or interweb connectivity. I've only played the free weekend and had some minor issues as well, but it was mostly fine. DoD Source I almost never had any issues with. OTOH, I played the Lead and Gold free weekend which had terrible connection issues which was most likely the game's fault.

Anyway I wouldn't pay $40, or even $30 for this game based purely on entertainment value. Not worth it IMO.

You're not really "playing through steam". The game's DRM is Steam, and it uses Steamworks for achievements. But, the "server" system IWNet, which is what manages connections and voice (IIRC).

Unless, of course, your not talking about MW2 specifically. Then it would be a problem with Steam, and I'm sorry that you're having so many difficulties.

No kidding, especially because they will release the next one every November. It should be more like 10-20 dollars to make it hot at this point, because the new one will for-sure be at least $60 next month.

IWNet is shit. It is the reason MW2 blows.

1) You can't connect half the time. I've had problems where a buddy and I can't join a party despite being on the same freaking network. Yes, this problem is also steam-related.
2) If you do connect, the host is often in malaysia or on 56k.
3) No vote-kick option. No game is ever going to be free from cheaters, so at least give us the chance to kick them out of the game.
4) No map choice. There a number of maps that just are awful. It sucks you can't choose to not play them.
5) See #1.


Steam is fine, except about their updates. Who the fuck chooses to consistently take it down during high-traffic times for maintenance? You'd think something like 6 am EST would be a great time, but nooooo they pull it down between 9 am - 1 pm yesterday, and usually take it down 6-9 pm on Thursdays.
