New Year's Resolutions are always a great time to set out some exciting goals for the year. So, what are YOUR goals for 2009? What's going to change for you this year? What awesome goals are you going to achieve?
MOD: Hijacked for the Goals 2009 thread
Please update this thread as this will be pinned. Also compare how well you did in 2008.
Update:
This thread has been stickied, so I reformatted the post. I didn't do anything health-related before 2008, so I have nothing to compare myself to yet. But for some personal history: In April of 2008, I completed a 6-week test to improve my overall energy. I really enjoyed it, but I had a big struggle getting back into it. I did, however, manage to maintain the weight I lost, which I am pleased with. So my goals for 2009, in order:
1. Lose 30 pounds (from 200lbs to 170lbs)
2. Begin "Starting Strength" and build a home gym setup
3. Purchase a Nordictrack Reflex-series Treadmill for indoor running (weather is often bad here)
4. Complete a Century bike ride (100 miles)
My tentative goal is to get to 170 pounds by April 1st. This may come sooner or may come later, but that's the goal I'll work towards - 3 months, approximately 10 pounds a month through proper eating (6 healthy meals a day) and exercise (45 minutes of cardio, 6 days a week). I would also like to increase my physical strength and appearance, so I will begin Starting Strength training after I lose the weight. I've never lifted weights before, so I figure the basics will be good to learn first. I am also studying Scooby's workout methods and have been putting together a bodybuilding workout plan based on his results and advice:

Bodybuilding has become of interest to me because I discovered I really enjoy seeing the results that come from a healthy lifestyle, in addition to feeling the results. I've never gotten buff before so it will be fun! I am also interested in the Ironman triathlon competition, which is why I plan on picking up a treadmill (the Reflex series has a bouncy, cushioned tread which is supposed to be better on the knees) and attempting a Century ride. I completed a 20-mile ride this year and I think I'll be able to handle a 100-mile ride next year. I don't know if I'll ever be able to compete in an Ironman race due to a trick knee and kidney problems, but it will sure be fun to get in shape for one! So those are my 2009 goals - get to my desired weight, start lifting weights, purchase a treadmill so I can run on bad-weather days, and complete a 100-mile bike ride
