If I'm not mistaken Alabama has laws against sex toys. Pathetic intrusion on people's lives.

Not anymore. I believe the law was struck down. There are two shops in Anniston that I know of.

Like I said, we should not have laws against what consenting, lucid adults do with one another

you ALSO said: "Societies not under the influence of christianity have a great number of moral similarities between christian ones. There are natural, common sense moral guidelines that the majority of humans naturally tend towards, even if they don't all necessarily follow them (we all know murder is bad, but sometimes we do it)."

You cannot have it both ways . . . . societies with [your] "natural common sense moral guidelines" persecute gays

I'm going to have to say, although it seems nasty and it most definetely should be against the law - 10 years is way extreme for such an offense. I don't see how the law can justify such a sentence for sex. Wrong sex, yes - but they are both consenting adults and thats all that really matters. Strange as though it may seem for any normal person, any jail at all is extreme in my mind, much less 10 years.

"Randy Christian, spokesman for the sheriff's office"

Gotta love the name. Pretty spot on, from what I gather of fundamental Christianity. Seems like the more 'Christian' the state, the higher the level of these types of incidents.

Thank goodness most of us find incest "not our thing".

There's already so many dysfunctional families out there, the last thing we need is to add sex into the equation.

And since one member of any incestuous relationship is older, there is always the possibility of an abuse of power.

So, in summary, it's best not to indulge in incest.

i doubt any of us find incest "our thing" . . .

(at least no one who'd publically admit it)

No one is "adding sex" . . . to families . . . incest is as old as the Human race.

Letsee . . ."older" . . . in this case, the brother was 44 and the sister 41 . . . looks like they just got blind drunk (again) and there is no mention of any abuse of power . . .

but other than that - nice summary.

Incest is quite morally wrong.

So is a law against it. Giving them 10 years for it is completely wrong.

Agreed, as long as both of the wanted it (however disgusting boffing your sis is), it should be within their right.

Might as well say its someones right to drink alcohol while pregnant...

Incest leads to serious birth deffects, I see no reason it should be legal. I mean even if they use precautionary measures there is still a chance of impregnation which effects a third party. As far as gay incest goes... however nasty I guess the same argument wont apply.

The people who are saying things like "Red state, nuff said" don't make any sense. A "red state" implies it's population is predominantly Republican Conservative. The mantra of the Conservatives is "less government intervention in our lives." Therefore, it seems to me that if the mojority of Albabama residents are conservative then they'd be apalled that the government is seeking to control the sex lives of consenting adults. To be consistent with their core beliefs, conservatives should be tolerant of such things and angry that the police arrested these two.

If Alabama is truly a red state (implying conservativism) then there should be no laws restricting any sex acts between consenting adults. Talk about the ultimate in hypocricy.

there is always "something" somene does that someone is gonna go "ick" over.

where there are certainly no advantages to it, incest has been ariound as long as the human race - and so far we have survived even the judgemental religions and stupid politics.

if it offends you, please feel free to 'ignore' it . . . the government would be wise to quite wasting precious resources "punnishing" it.

WOW, YOU'RE AN IDIOT!

And for anyone against incest; according to the bible, we're all related anyway (adam & eve) so everyone should go have sex with their siblings if they want to.

lol, and you look like the kid playing the banjo in Deliverence. Maybe you're closer to this subject then we think...

i think the law is there because average incestor is poor and can't afford to take care of the retarted baby they make, so the state picks up the bill.

The sister in question was in all likelyhood beyond her childbearing years. (Most women are beyond the ability to become pregnant at the age of 40) Children of incest are only at slightly elevated risk of birth defects, recent studies put that risk at around a 4% increase in risk. In addition there is no harm to anyone if no one becomes pregnant.

The basis of our law SHOULD (and used to) be that all acts and transactions between consenting adults are legal and only in situations where someones rights are being infringed against their consent should that act be illegal. Unfortunately even though this was the basis of our consitution, time and generations of propaganda have changed that view and it's a tragedy beyond compare that there is even such a thing as a victimless crime. It's incomprehensible that you can spend more time in prison for banging a sibling than you will spend in prison for manslaughter, rape or other serious acts of violence against nonconsenting individuals and people like you defend these laws.

While I agree it's just plain wrong to have sex with your sibling, I don't think you should goto jail for it. It's not that kind of wrong.

nononononononono... when they say 'less government,' they're refering only to the federal government. the federal government is the limited one, whereas the states are plenary.
