At this rate August should be interesting .....

Weirdly coastal New England has continued to be cool/hazy.

Just looked it up and Phoenix is only 108 on heat index. Meanwhile in my neighborhood

What's kind of perverse is it doesn't even feel that bad compared to how it was a few days ago.
The heat index in Tucson today is seven degrees cooler than the actual temperature.

Tucson really IS a "dry heat" though lol!

(after a certain point that really doesn't matter a whole lot!)

Snow is pretty, though. Cold and dark, but no snow, is just depressing. Snow is the one consolation prize for winter.

The downside of summer is having long sunny days if you aren't in a position to make any use of them, i.e. are stuck indoors for any reason (work or health or whatever). It always makes me acutely aware of the finite nature of life, i.e that I've only got a limited number of such days left ahead of me. In winter you have the consolation of knowing that it's miserable out anyway, and everybody else is probably stuck indoors as well so you aren't really missing anything.

Snow is good for one day.

One.

When I was a kid most winters meant dirty/nasty ice and snow at least partially covering the ground from mid-Dec through late Feb... last 5-7 years even 20+ inches of snow is 90% gone in a week.

We've really gone and done it... and remember... the PLANET is doing just fine, its the PEOPLE (us!) that are fvcked.

Again ... the PLANET is cruising right along without a care .... barring collision with a giant asteroid or the sun going super-nova (ie: exploding) the EARTH is doing a-okay!

It's the earth PLUS plastic! (minus humans ?!?)

Pick another local sensor station. Some read consistently high. Could be five degrees over the actual temp.

AZ in general and Tucson in particular (surrounded by desert) very often have significantly lower humidity then a lot of Texas due to being farther away from any coastline, the gulf and it's warmer waters in particular.

While "hot IS hot" (lol) after a certain point, higher humidity makes sweating less efficient at "wicking" heat away from the human body.

I'm checking into to Flagstaff. Phoenix is redic, Tucson seems nice, but a bit hot for a New Englander. Flagstaff seems to have a bit more moderate temps, uh, and wildfires though. Trying to convince my wife to move to AZ after our moms pass. Allergies and arthritis are getting on my nerves. We'll have to plan a trip at some point.

If you have pollen allergies, plan your trip for the spring when everything is blooming. Cedar, mesquite, and palo verde pollen lay some people out flat. They don't bother me at all but make life pure hell for affected folks. It's better to find out if you're one of the affected people before moving here.

108°F and 8% humidity at the moment. We have some cloud cover so I don't think we'll hit the promised 114°F today.

108°F = 42°C

Waiting for 113°F so I can play that Midnight Oil song.

Urban heat shield effect. The actual temp is often a few degrees hotter in an area with lots of development and no parks and crap nearby.

Nice place to visit ... wouldn't want to live there? (sorry) Couple friends went to school in Tucson.

Until fairly recently I would have said the same about Florida... now I won't even visit there!
