-Yep, no one ever seems to talk about day 30/60/90 snow that has been compacted into ice, covered with dirt and exhaust, broken open huge potholes on the street, etc etc etc.

You say snow everyone thinks winter wonderland.

I'll take snow over southern ice

Flagstaff IS nice however keep in mind @ 6900 ft above sea level you're in snow-country!
(approx 100 inches annually)
Hmm, didn't see that much snow listed when I looked it up. I thought that it was at an elevation of ~2000 ft, till I noticed that that was *meters* !! As you pointed out.

If you have pollen allergies, plan your trip for the spring when everything is blooming. Cedar, mesquite, and palo verde pollen lay some people out flat. They don't bother me at all but make life pure hell for affected folks. It's better to find out if you're one of the affected people before moving here.
Thanks. It's grasses that kill me (and ragweed). Seem to be fine with Trees, but that's here in NH.

700 or so feet higher than lake level @ Tahoe.

Nearly 2k feet higher than Denver.

I can't even imagine 42C, that's just not humanly right that anyone has to be subjected to that. Hottest I ever witnessed was 39C when I went down south to go to Canada's Wonderland with some friends. We spent the whole time in the water park because all the other rides just made us sick. Water park was PACKED. TBH we didn't even really enjoy ourselves that much, we were just trying to stay cool the whole time. Kinda got unlucky that it ended up being a heat wave. I guess it's better than pouring rain and the park closing down. There was one water slide that had a leaky supply pipe so we kept going on that one because during the 2 hour wait you were at least having water splashing on you from the pipes above. Crazy to think some people have to work physical jobs in that kind of temperature, and have to wear clothes such as long pants and long sleeves too. I would just die. I'm not a fan of working in the extreme cold either but if I had to pick one I'll pick the cold, at least once you get moving it's not that bad, it's getting started that's hard.

Sounds amazing

It's why we moved here almost 5 years ago. We'll get a few days around 80F every summer...and occasionally, 1-2 days over 90, but it always cools down nicely at night.
We don't have AC other than open windows and a couple of fans.

living by the beach is like sitting next to a large fog cooler. it's nice, it rarely gets hot. does my bones in, i can stand a few days at a rental flat before i ache all over. qualities i miss about georgia in the summer were the tranquil quietness and at ease I'd feel each day after work and on weekends. the occasional neighbour over or us over to theirs or a block gathering. qualities i don't miss are the nasty liquid georgians call "sweet tea" or "iced tea" which is some bit of tea mixed with a half kilo of sugar. the bugs, the midnight heat and lack of wind. I'd never used them before and didn't know you could buy it as a normal civilian folk but my then wife one day went out and bought several different kinds of zappers and had me hang them of course outside our then home. I thought it was a stupid waste of money, cheap as chips now that I think about it but wages everywere were lower then. we spent the first night kept up from the constant sound of bugs dying a quick painless death with the occasional larger bug making a multi second buzzing sound. 2nd night we were laughing at the little bastards, 3rd night we fell asleep with ease.

There was but one place that did a simple iced tea. no sugar. they boiled over ripe but edible peaches in water and used that water to steep the black and green teas in. that was ambrosia that stuff. A hint of sweetness and tart, that bold juicy peach flavor and a joy to drink. You could preorder a large jugs worth for a hot weekend if you wanted to have some at home with you. they had to close up shop many years later during the recession. I've tried making it myself but it doesn't taste as nice. the peaches I get from the store are rubbish.

pffft. that's weak. Boston is kinda mild. Check out the UP or Buffalo.
idk, are those the 5ft snow & snowplows & thermal gear kind of places? am not impressed. i got literally house-trapped by snow in canada, but that's nothing compared to sideways-flying black slush at -20C.

Looks like your grankids are having a lot of fun. How clean is that snow in the walls once you tunnel out? could you bring it in to chill down a cocktail or a glass of pop?

no idea because that ain't me. I would never live in such a god-forsaken place. Google found those from the UP for me.

yes indeed, that's my experience as well, living in Chicago for many years. It's good for a day....then the sooty black snow and ice chunks just become terrorism.

even so, my biggest problem in such places is the length of the cold: October through midJune could just be asscold on any given day and that is very annoying. June, FFS.
