God I hate wasting money

Mom is a professor of languanges so has used MACs since at least 84'. I've tried numerous times to convince her to switch but she like the ease of accents used in her languages for syllibi/tests etc. Evidently its apple key-vowel or control-vowel for proper accents and is transparent thoughout all programs. Natually I could build a Smoking PC or even buy one for pennys on the dollar of a MAC. Anyway since I can't convice her no matter what I've tried where to shop for these outragously priced machines?

My 2600+M is being held back by my memory. I have an older nForce2 board with the 12.5x = max issue, so I have no choice but to run a 400MHz bus if I want 2.5GHz. Unfortunately, I have sh!tty ram. I'm pretty sure it's my memory thats keeping me from 2.5GHz.

Right now I have it at 185 x 12.5 = 2.312GHz @ 1.6v.

you could go to pricewatch.com and buy from a dealer there. I don't know if you would save much that way though.
Another option is to hope for a good price at eb@y .. but again, i doubt you would save much.
And of course you could monitor FS/FT .. however, Macs are pretty rare there, and even then, usually they are of the PPC or G3 era ...

Actually check with pcmall and those places. My friend got one from ther..saved #100 and RAm got doubled to 1.5GB

Where else are you gonna get a Mac if it's not from apple? You could try to buy it thru a university with academic discount, but is usually only like $100 less. If you want a Mac, forget about getting a good deal on it, unless you know someone who works at apple

it's even hard to find them on e-bay for a good price... and after hearing all the scam stories, I'm not sure I'd ever buy a computer there.

an expensive computer part, sure, but not a +$1,000 box.

Yeah, you could ge tyour mom a machine that doesn't work for what she needs for cheaper. That'd be a great deal. Instead of spending $2k on something useful, spend $1k on something useless.

You think what your mom wants is a smoking PC that runs at 3.2Ghz and gets 200fps in Unreal Tournament? Did you even pay attention when she was talking about accents and other character sets? Her goal isn't to play games with the thing.

All the reason in the world for your mom to get a Mac is right here.

But go ahead, complain about "wasting" money on a machine that does everything she needs, I'm sure it'd be much less of a waste if the machine could play Half-Life 2.

why don't you just not buy a G5 and get her a decent iBook? Anywayz, if you want to same some money sign up to become an apple developer ($99 a year) and you'll receive a coupon to buy hardware for 10% off I believe. I've never done it but if you're gonna spend more than $2g's at apple.com I'd suggest looking into it.

Bah You act as if you can't do this with PC. I've tried to show her in word..click on Insert/Symbol then find what she needs or just use the four number commands but she, like most moms, won't take the learing curve on.

No problem though, she is my mom after all, just POed apple wants so much for thier stuff relative.

ROFL that was out of the blue.... One word, I'm asian... that means I live at home (just graduated last year) so I have no rent for now. Nor am I moving out anytime soon... my mom would home alone if I did. And I put a big down payment on it.

Heh, you'd rather type 5 keys for every character than just select "greek" or "russian" from a drop down box and keep typing normally? I thoguht your goal was a "blazing system", not one that requires five times as long just to type on.
