First Impressions
Note: I'm playing on a LG VX8700 and have spent about 30 minutes with the game. Also, I'm not sure what other forum to put this in.
Graphics: This game easily blows away Crysis! Har Har. No really, I wish I had something to compare this game to for easy refference for you guys, but I've only played Bejewled and Doom RPG on this cell phone--so I guess that will have to do. The GFX are pretty impressive for a cell phone game. Probably the best I've come across so far--but that's really not saying much. Nothing mindblowing here, no special effects or anything--just a 2D sidscrolling, bloody, action game with acceptabily smooth animations. The art, so far, is clean and crisp making items and creeps easily identifiable. Kratos is just about the right size on the screen taking up about 10% of the screen sitting slightly off-center mostly to the back leaving more space up front to see what's coming up. I figured Kratos's movement would be jerky, but he's a pretty smooth mover (albeit a little stiff).
Kratos has never been this cute.
Sound:
No much to talk about here. The game tries its best to replicate all the authentic sounds on a cell--and it does it to an acceptable level. So far, there is no much (if any?) music during game play--just the sound of people dying and the thunderous SLAM of your Athena blades as they smash into the ground at the end of a combo. Cool!
Gameplay:
Like I stated earlier, the game is a 2D sidescroller. There appears to be only one speed so far--so thankfully no run option. There is no upward or downward movement on the screen. There is, however, some grappling and doing a Indiana Jones across a pit so far. So, it's not just about moving left or right. Pressing down near a chest throws it open just like in the game, releasing orbs for you to use. A right "soft button" press brings up the weapon menu so that you can apply your red orbs to your weapons.
What can I say--it's really God of War on your cell.
Overall First Impression:
When I hit the (mini?) boss at the end of the first stage, the game wanted me to press down to invoke the "combo" and then qucikly press left then right and then up. It took me about 5 attempts to dinally land it, leaving a cramp in my hand and putting the phone down. This game just might prove to be a little much for a one handed, thumb driven, quick paced sidescroller. But, I'm deffinitly going to check this game out some more--it could be fun.
