i had never played the gow series until i got collections when it came out...
just got through the first one, and very impressed, although i never played the ps2 versions so i have nothing to compare it to.
everything is very fluid, which from what i read may have been a problem in the originals...

I just got this today and played it just now for about 2.5 hours.

The game is amazing. I had played part 1 about 1.5 hours before and that was as far as I got.

Right after I finished playing it on the collection I put in the PS2 versn of part 1.

OMG ... it is night and day difference. The collection looks SSSSSOOOOOO much better. The "widescreen" and "progressive" mode in the PS2 version even fill up the whole screen. Just as a whole, the collection is TONS better than the original.

It looks a lot better than I expected. I am extremely happy with it and can't wait to get to part 2 after I finsh part 1. I'm just glad I'm at a part in the first that I have never played before.

what a sec, you put the ps2 version in the ps3 and applied all the enhancements and the collection was still a ton better?

i want this game so fucking bad. how is the sound? im getting a new sound system and although i really should be playing a new ps3 game, id rather pay money for these, again, because they are so badass.

I picked the collection up for $20 during black Friday. I'm so excited to give it a whirl.

yes, i have a 60gb launch ps3, and it looks significantly better. it is just tons smoother with AA, 60FPS, it is a lot more colorful, no screen tearing, no slowdown.

i dont have surround sound or anything so i can't really comment on the sound. the sound in general is so awesome though. the music is just so epic.

if you havent played these games at all, i highly recommend you get the collection. it is just an epic game.

honestly graphically i think it looks like its between a Wii and PS3 game, but a lot closer to the Wii in terms of graphics. I'm going to go ahead and say it looks better than quite a bit of Wii games, but just the reslution alone may be making me feel that way.

I loved the puzzles in the game. GoW 1 was a lot of fun, my biggest gripe was getting to the end and having to learn a totally new style of play to beat the final boss after playing one way all game pretty much.

God of War 2 I am up to the end and haven't had a chance to play it for a couple days. I am soooooooooooooo happy they changed the R2 button to R1 and added "O" to be pressed repeatedly. I really enjoyed the jumping sequence (forgot the exact location but you're over a jungle) from grappling point to grappling point and getting to the cave.

The sound is OK, but not nearly as good as some of the better PS3 games (eg, MGS4, Dragon Age). I've only played GoW 1, though, so maybe the sequel fares better.

Finished GOW1 yesterday...

the game is incredible. i can't believe i did not play this to the end back in PS2 days, but i'm glad since I got to enjoy it in HD now for the first time and it really looks great. it is very amazing what they did w/the PS2 when this game was made.

however, i have a few gripes...

first, i want to shoot the guy who designed the underworld level, particularly the part where you climb on the spinning cylinder thing w/blades on it. the whole leve was pretty lame IMO and i did not like it cause it had a lot of jumping parts as well as walking along spinning parts that were frustrating due to the locked camera.

and the very last portion of the game i did not like either, thought it was just dumb and i kind of got lucky that i beat it when i did because of the attacks the boss was doing. i also thought the part RIGHT before the FINAL boss was pretty stupid and just kind of annoying.

even with that tough i loved the game and can't wait to get into part 2.

I liked GoW2 a lot more than 1 myself. Both are good of course, but 2 felt more epic to me.

From what I remember the final boss is very, very, very cheap. I wanted to break my controller.

so far i'm the opposite.

i played about 2 hours of GoW2 last night.

i dont really like the whole flying thing so far, although it I'm getting used to it, and I also don't like all of the climbing parts so far. the climbing parts were some of my least favorite parts in gow1 and so far it seems like in the first 2 hours of GoW2 there is more climbing than in the whole GoW1 game.

but even w/that so far it is freaking awesome.

Oh god, I hated the final boss of GoW 1. Ugh, I'm getting mad just remembering it.

im like 4 hours into gow2. this game is flat out sick. it seems a little easier than gow1 in general, but the boss battles seem a little tougher. it seems i always have that 'press l3 and r3' thing full all the time in part 2.

Done and done.

Played through both games in a weeks time and I'm once again impressed with Santa Monica Studios ability to create a real greek tragedy that I actually care about. One of the few games where I honestly anticipated the cutscenes to see what happens next. There is something underneath the gameplay layer of this game that makes you feel like a complete badass, teathered to Kratos and his ire, and I just love that! It sounds strange to say (but wtf this is a video game forum) but I could just feel Kratos's rage in every swing, head slam, kick and tear.

Overall--though slightly more easy--I enjoyed GoW2 more than the first (and I love the first). The term is hyperbolic these days I do feel like it's one of the few epic experience (in every sense of the word) in this industry--it feels like you're moving worlds. Lame to say (and read I'm sure) I know.

I immedately jumped into the GoW3 demo afterward and--after playing through the first two games--have to say that though this game is topping everyones hype meter, I feel like we're all unaware of how amazing this game really could be.

You know how we've been seeing the same stuff since the games announcement? Well a few days ago Sony held an even in NY and they finally showed off some new stuff. When the embargo on that stuff lifts (late Jan) everyone is going to be stunned at what they showed (I have it on pretty good authority). There is a chance we could see review copies go out as early at early Feb (though no word on NDAs) and I'm going to fight tooth and nail to get in on the review!

One last thing--unskippable cutscenes (especially when forced to watch a second time) should be considered a federal offense. Seriously! I do not know if I could be any more hyped for this game.
