Has anyone used GoDaddy for hosting? I'm looking for a good and not too expensive Windows host. I have heard many good things about their domain name registration.

RaiderJ - You should for 2 reasons:
1) $6.95/yr sale ends tomorrow.
2) The internet is the real estate of the 21st century, thousands of domains are being registered every day. One day the domain you want might be registered by some bastard domain squatter!

ResearchEverything - Love your username and it's totally true

For Windows web host I would suggest reSEARCHING WHT for better alternatives.

Also check out their web host offers forum.

If you want an established reliable web host then check out FluidHosting.com, highly recommended

Don't know how the service compares but I have gotten several emails from Yahoo! for Domain Registration at $4.98/yr.

Yahoo! Link

I haven't taken the bait but I have thought about it. I think the deal ends 01/31/05.

I used them for another domain I have and so far I've not had any problems.

Are these only for new registrations or can I extend my registration for a year on a domain I already have for this price as well?

i'd like to chime in with Fluidhosting as a excellent host. The have been nothing short of stellar for me with the years I have been with them, and their choice of control panel rocks

Thanks RossMAN.

I finally jumped in and got a domain name of my own. I used NameCheap, the other registrar recommended by RossMAN. They charge $8.88/yr. but they offer free WhoisGuard for a year.

I don't know about their domain name registration, but I have heard awful things about their web hosting and the total unprofessionalism of their customer service reps. I know that the prices are right, but I am just leary of the complaints I have heard as of late. I don't mean to crap on your thread, just do your homework before you buy anything.

No offense taken, thank you for sharing your opinion.

Have you ever actually used GoDaddy.com for domain registration?

I have and haven't experienced the problems you mentioned. IMHO I use a domain registrar for 1 purpose only, domain registration.

When it comes to web hosting, I prefer to use a company which specializes in web hosting.

I went ahead and signed up for their hosting and transfered my domain. I also registered 3 new domains as well. If you pay for hosting for a whole year then it is 20% off. They have discounts for registering domains for more years. I called their technical support folks a couple of times before I registered. I was satisfied with the answers and help I received. I had call also call technical support for 1and1.com but their support folks seemed more suited to being sales reps. The godaddy control panel is proprietary but includes all functionality expected. The tech support person I dealt with was able to sell me the hosting package as well. I read every word of their hosting agreements and domain registration agreements and were satisfied that my rights and domains would be protected. Lets keep this thread going for all those still looking for hosting and domain registration. I would highly recommend godaddy for at minimum domain registration.

Thank you for the kind words.

I was first bitten by the "web host bug" a little over 3 years ago after reading this Hot Deals thread and signing up with my very first web host 3-95.com

Not a very hot deal.

New or renew for $5.99 all of the time at 1&1. Nothing else to buy.

I've been using them for a year or so after their 3 year free deal. So far so good - and FREE! That was a really hot deal.
